I would like to buy an argon laser

Does anyone know what prices they should be? Im not to sure on how much they should be. also, were is as good place to find one, especially one that comes with a working power supply, I have had an interest in argon lasers for a long time, but im just not sure on buying one.

What are you looking for?
Is single-line OK or do you require multi-line?
Do you have a preference between box type and cylinder type?
How much output do you need.
Is this just for fun or are you going to use it in shows?
Are you willing/able to do some fairly simple soldering?

I'll send me a PM. I have several here and sell for about as low as you can get them.

Prices can range from $250 - several thousand dollars depending on age, type, and what you're looking for in terms of application. You can get the regularly on ebay, but personally I recommend talking to Dagiun about getting one from him. It really helps to buy from someone who knows what they're talking about.

I've always liked argon's there a great gas laser, (Sorry for the semi-thread jack) But Dave how much are looking for one with a PSU?

box or cylinder?

Yes, I can do some soldering, box or cylinder wont matter, I wan't to use it for fun and for doing some laser shows, and using it with galvanometers. not sure what you mean by single line or multi line. and output, hmm I'm not sure about the outputs of argon lasers so i can't really say, i have seen some ones like 2 watt ones, 400mW 30mW, im not sure of the brightness of them.

OK Well --

I've got two good entry level lasers. These will get you into this aspect of the hobby without breaking the bank. Plus, if you move up with JDSU units, the PSU will still be good for you.

I have a 2214-12SL and a 2214-20SL. The 2214 series is the cylinder type. I will provide the laser, the PSU, and a copy of the manual. You will have to provide a fan, a bit of dryer vent hose, and some sort of remote interface.

The fan and vent hose are easy to obtain. The remote is an easy build. I will provide you with links to a schematic. I will wire the "jumpers" for operation at "idle" so you can run it as soon as it arrives and you have a fan, but to get the full power out of them you will have to either build or buy a remote interface.

Both of these units are single line at 488nm (cyan blue). The outputs of the units are listed below:

2214-12SL:

4A = 1.5mW
5A = 3mW
6A = 5mW
7A = 8mW
8A = 10mW
9A = 14mW
10A = 17mW



2214-20SL:

4A = 4mW
5A = 7mW
6A = 11mW
7A = 16mW
8A = 21mW
9A = 27mW
10A = 36mW


Normal running current would be 7-8A. You can run them up to the 10A (and a bit more), but the life of the laser is negatively effected if you run them there all the time.

The units are $200 PLUS shipping EACH. These are heavy articles (PSU = ~20 pounds packaged: Laser = ~12 pounds packaged)

Since there are two of you interested and asking about them, whoever gets funds to me first gets the 20SL.

If you are interested in paying a bit more ~$250-$300 (plus shipping) for a multi-Line, let me know. I have a couple of Lasos lasers that I have mated to PSU's

Multi-line lasers emit more than one wavelength at once. The beam consists of a blend of hues that can be separated by using a diffraction grating. Here's a system I just got from Dave. I used a blank DVD to split the output beam into the six colors it consists of.





EDIT: walked away for a second while writing this post and didn't notice you posted Dave. That pic shows multi-line output great..
