Dave you always have the answers! I just bought it, but one question...should I just cut off that wierd tip and strip some of the end of the wire to connect it to my power supply?

You're still trying with AAs? No wonder. They have too high of impedance and the voltage drops under such a heavy load. They can supply 6V and they can supply maybe 1500mA but not at the same time!

I once measured the short-circuit current of a no-name AA at 8A. AAAs commonly run 0.6A in pointers. AAs can handle 1-1.5A just fine.

My mother used to say, "From your lips to god's ear."
Would that, your statement were true . . . . <sigh>

Yes. It will probably be a single wire in the middle and a "shield" (maybe braided) around it.
The wire in the middle is the positive lead

Peace,
dave

HOLY SHIT! Well...first times for everything, including being jolted by 1250VDC! Whew, woke me the fuck up! I realized I had forgotten to solder the White/Yellow wire to the pos input for enable. So I did that....and turns out what I thought was the off position for the switch was actually the on position and lets just say my hands came close to the outputs. The rest is history. I dropped the hole fuckin thing was like gaSDalkgawlugesdjghb!

Moral of the story: I now have a working HeNe on 4x Tenergy AA batteries. Yes, I realize that I clearly did not learn anything....so??? It was kinda fun really, although my hands are trembling a lot more than usual. Good thing I am healthy....mostly?

Thanks for all the help guys!

Yea, I have never worked with High Voltage stuff before. Got shocked once while it was off, too...I guess there was some buildup and as I was adjusting how it was sitting on the project box it gave me a little love tap.

Wussy boy . . . .

;)

You learn to do things with one hand around HV

BOTH the PSU AND the tube act as capacitors
You have to let them or force them to bleed off the charge before they are safe

Peace,
dave

Hehe, everyone gets bit by a HeNe supply eventually. It is an experience you'll never forget. Just be glad it is current limited!

For real! Gotta say it was the best part of my day. After that shit hit fans: I had a meh day at work and then broke the A frame on one of my wheels so have to get car repairs. Depending on what it runs me you guys may see some of my lasers(not my HeNe though) in a FS thread.
