Okay then....I got it out of the housing and got some photos of the label for the laser and also took some pics of the Fan for Silvershot. I still need to pick up some dryer tube and then I might try the work-around for Idle.
I do have a question about this....on the DB25 user interface port on the PSU you can short pin 1 to 3 (interlock) and pin 2 to 13 (discharge on).
On the ribbon cable there is one RED line and the rest grey. How can I tell which is #1? Also by "short" do you mean just use a wire and link the two numbers?

Look carefully at the connector on the psu, there will be small numbers by each pin. And yes, you just use wire to connect the interlock and discharge.

Your tube is a single line FYI.

Ok this is how I tried to assemble it. In the first picture there is the main blower and a wire coming out from the middle the top of it,





I used these to screw the blower on the back of the housing.


This is how it looked like( I took picture before I realised I had to use those rings shown in the previous picture. I then placed the rings and screwed the blower in the back of the housing)



I then inserted the metal wheel in the housing and tried to tighten it a little above the bottom of the housing, so it does not touch it while spinning.






Next step was to place the black ring on top followed by another higher gold ring. Then I just used the remaining screws and tightened both rings on the top of the housing as shown below.





This is how it looks like now.



532 with Envy, thanks for the photos, although I already had assembled it. The vent hose Robjdixon sent me( he bought it ) is way too small in diameter to fit in both the laser and the fan. I am getting one with a dia of ~90mm next week though

@daguin, is this assembled the right way? Also, what are those green and green/yellow wires on the blower, as shown in the first picture?

Hey Silvershot....Sorry it's not in the photo's but the two greed wires coming out of the fan are both attached to the housing of the fan itself. Then off the main black power cord,(on my beckman unit) the green was grounded to the chasis of the main unit.

Looks like the innards of a turbofan engine there - you guys realise you need FAA clearance to start those? (j/k)

Good to see you guys are about to be lasing in the 488 nm region - the beam of an argon is something to behold. Very lovely colour.

The fan appears to have been assembled correctly

The green wires are ground.

The black and white wires are for power. It should be black for power and white for neutral.

Alrighty then....I have taken my Argon and PSU out of the original housing and put together a little something that should do the job.
After I got the PSU and Fan mounted, Hosing attached to the Tube...I decided to fire it up and see what I could see.
I did link the 1 & 3....and...2 & 13 to get to Idle(I think I got it right)
Timelablasers(Rob) had offered to make me a controller for it and that will come when he finds time for it. :thanks::thanks::thanks:

In the mean time here are some pics of the set-up and then the "lasing". I did leave it on for a bit longer this time and it never shut it self down, so that, like Daguin said, must have been a thermal protection circuit/switch. I turned off the laser and then let the fan run for a bit longer in hopes to cool it down more.

That isn't lasing, that's the glow from the plasma. Also, I don't see why you have removed the front end of the tube - and you don't *need* to short pins 2-13 for it to run, 1-3 will work just fine.

However, I like what you've done with the set up!

Well I was hoping that at least it might be Idle?....
On the end of the tube was a fiber coupling of some sort, I removed it so I could see what was going on inside. It was in two parts and I might be able to re-attach the first part and still allow it to work properly.

Yeah the faceplate has part of a light sensor for power detection on it. And it has mounting holes on the outside for other components such as fibre couplers and expanders. The coupler should come off without an issue.

It's best to keep the face plate and optical sensor on, it keeps the mirrors clean and helps if you want to know the power too, although sometimes they are not calibrated.

I'm sorry to say that, at that current (4A, Idle), that head is not lasing. Maybe with more current it will .

Thank you for your help. I'll see about putting the faceplate back on.

Idle for now is okay with me!....when I get the controller from Timelablasers I will turn it up and see what I see.
