Yes there is a thread here somewhere (started by me) I think its called "Bens Argon Laser).

It has photographs of the innards of the laser physics, along with a run video

I've emailed TLL to see if he has any with bad tubes, or PSU's broken or anything. Fixing a switchmode PSU is gonna be a lot easier and cheaper than building one from scratch.

What's the tube current on these things?

About 3-14A. It'll last like 20,000hrs at 3A and a few minutes at 14A. I'd recommend no more than 8A.
