Saw something on fleebay that made me shudder. Is this any way to fix this?

yup. that is some pretty crude-looking salvage, there. It looks like a JDSU 2214 Argon Ion laser head. building that cable from scratch won't be cheap, or pretty. Now if the seller still has the cable, it can be grafted back on, but it will leave a scar. ;)

Having the cable cut like that, is generally an indication that the person doing the salvage or repair didn't think it was worth salvaging

I used to save umbilicals from lasers that were beyond repair

However, even I think that pulling a cylindrical laser apart to rewire is a pain in the a$$

Rewiring a box style is as hard as I want to work ;)
