Are all of the 612nm orange multi line? I have one but have never put a grating in the beam.
I'll try putting a grating in front of mine tonight to see wha t happens.

IIRC making a mirror for 612 typically engenders a certain degree of proclivity for 594.1nm emission as well due to the curved nature of reflection coefficients. That isn't to say you can't have a 612nm notch pass filter mirror, but just that it would be needlessly expensive to do so.

No not all of them are multiline.
Mine is a single line 612nm - even though its an REO.

I put a diffraction grating in front of my 612 and it is multiline. I was very surprised and also very happy.

The picture I have attached shows three lines. The far right looks to be 594.1. Sorry the picture sucks so bad, but I took the picture with my phone in one hand from across the room while I was holding the grating in front of the laser with my other hand.

I was even happier when I checked the power with my LaserCheck power meter. The tube had only been on for about 2 minutes and was doing 3.04mw not even warmed up.

When I get some time I will warm it up and take some better pictures with the grating to better show the different lines.

The other pictures did not show up b/c they were too large file size, so here they are...

very nice,

Where did you get it from?

DOn't know your experience level, but be careful with it, they are hard to find :)

I've had it for about a year. Got it from a friend who installs club lighting. I like the color especially in fog. Great for my Halloween display! I'm gonna use it with the motors/ mirrors from an old American dj black widow to make an orange tunnel leading to my front porch. Should look very cool.

yeah that's neat. I want to get a new orange. my last one took a tumble due to a clumsy idiot. I'm hoping I can find another one for a decent price. :/ Sam told me he might sell me his...but I don't know if I wanna steal it if i don't have to.

I might be able to buy another one from my buddy. He said he had a few more but was not sure if they were orange or red. I'll know for sure tonight. If I do get another orange I might be willing to sell one of them - whichever has lower power output, of course.

My new orange along with the 4.5mw yellow I got from Sam should look killer for Halloween! I hope to work on my Halloween stuff this weekend. I'll post some pictures of the orange & yellow together in some fog when I do.

I just meant "New" to me. But I think it is very low hours.

My friends other tubes were RED, but he gave me a lead on one and I just got another 612 that is NOS, unused!

I'm going to fire it up tonight and put my meter on it to see the power output and then check if it is multi line. Hope it is because it wasn't cheap at all. I'll post some pics if I get a chance.

Cool hope it comes out to be spectacular :) what power meter do you use to measure your Hene tubes? Do you have a meter that measures accurately that low? Most meters don't like going that low.

I have a coherent lasercheck. I don't remember how accurate it is but it did come with a calibration certificate, and I bought it new directly from coherent. How well do they do with these low power HeNe's? Recently I bought some tubes that were measured with a much bigger/better coherent that is calibrated yearly and used by a medical laser tech. I measured them with my lasercheck and it read within a few 10th's of what I was told they measured.

Haven't had time to power up the tube yet. All homework is done now and I'm about to get the kids in bed.

I imagine they're pretty accurate. I've never used one before, but you can likely look up what it's specs and response ranges/time are. Measuring HeNes accurately is a bit harder sometimes due to the lower power ranges and bore light. Be sure to show us some pics when you fire it up :)

612 is one of my favorite wavelengths.

612 is a very nice color  but 609nm holds its place in my eyes :p
