Hi,
id like to show you a few pics of what happens when you buy a laser from an unknown source. i will have to modify a few things to get this build the way it should be.

Hahaha.. What a Hydro Nightmare ( Wet Dream ) !!! Hey...Wada U do'in....snopp'in around inside there anyway ?? hahaha

If I were gonna do a hack job like that....I would at least epoxy the front end shut.....to hide my lazy ass ways !!!....Naaaah....too much extra work !!!'
haha.

Wada Tool !! ( Original builder ) Good luck !!

Blech....functional, maybe- but if you are going to use a host like that (which isn't cheap), you should hold yourself to higher build standards :(

It does look a bit messy, maybe it was a first time build.

:crackup:Don't be giving anyone ideas now.

Wire is round so it doesn't make good contact, that's a very half-assed way to heat sink a chip.

Hey it's all good to nosey see it payed off . The rebuild will use a SXD with ramp up set to 1.8mA . I stripped the 462nm diode straightened out the bent up pins. Just need a little tender loving care. If by chance I screw up a build I rip it down to make things right. The pos+ and neg- to the pill and contact spring was soldered. Mind you there both mechanical screws . That's not happening this time. I'll post the new build...
Thanks guys for for ur support..:)) oh by the way the driver was just floating around inside the pill getting banged around

hey Gr3EN i don't blame you one bit brother i have a great WL diode 462.and an awesome Sinner host you did well by me pal. the reason it caught my eye was i have a Sinner Cypreus3B with a NDB7875 3+W in it with an xdrive set at 2.4mA. i just bought the Sinn 10x beam exspander and adapter for it. just waiting to get my nylon tip 4mm grub screws so i can hook it up...thanks for the buy my friend..

Yea...which could work, but that's one anemic little piece of wire!

The actual question would be: DOES it?

It's a blatantly bad construction technique, i'll give you that right away. But is it actually inadequate in the sense that the chip overheats during normal operation of this laser pointer?

It could be that the chip just needed a really small amount of extra cooling for reliable operation and this hack provided just that. If it is actually sufficient for it to work properly you can say anything you want about it, but not that it is not an effective solution :D

Yes ill agree to that it was doing its job burned very well driver never went on safety. ill even try to salvage the driver carefully, theres still hope for it. waste not want not besides it deserves another shot. very well thought out.The build was just rushed through without a little planning... :))

If you remove the driver i suggest replacing that kludge wire solution with one of those tiny glue-on heatsinks, provided you can get that thermally greased on 'heatsink wire' off easily.

It's not uncommon to find kludges like this in consumer products. They are bascially a result of a design miscalculation that was noticed late in the testing process.

If i were to venture a guess as to how this came to be: They probably tested the circuit on a lab bench with free air circulation, and it performed just fine. Then they took it into production, but the driver went into thermal shutdown because it was now enclosed in the body of the pointer with restricted air circulation.

Having already produced a large number of these boards adding this wire-heatsink kludge proved to be the cheapest way to remedy that problem they just went for it.

If they ever did a second generation of this circuit you'd probably find that it would have been resolved by a larger pcb heatsink area, or a little heatsink mounted on the device. The problem is you cannot rapidly source tiny heatsinks that would actually fit the enclosure, so they went with this solution that apparently works.
