So I have these Sky-Ray hosts that I have been offering and I have a lot of questions on how to mod the tailcap for making them fit 2X18350's instead of the standard 2X16340's. So here is a little tut on how to do it if you want to do it yourself. I will also offer this service for an extra fee on the units.;)

The host.

So here it goes.

Start with the tailcap.
p1019716.jpg

Use a pair of needle none pliers to turn the spacer out.
p1019719.jpg

Once you have it out you will have the plastic center piece and the brass battery contact.
p1019722.jpg

What we are going to do is lop off the top of the spacer to add several millimiters length for the batteries to accommodate the 18350's.

You can use a lathe but I just have my dremel and it works great. Hold one side with a pair of pliers and go cut it along the top of the base. It is pretty thin aluminum and it will cut like butter.
p1019725.jpg

When you are done you can pull the top from the base.
p1019726.jpg

Now you are left with the base and the top which you can now discard. Also you can smoth out the top of the base where you cut it.:)

Now we are going to go back to the switch in the tailcap.
p1019735.jpg

Discard the plastic spacer and the brass battery contact.
p1019736.jpg

Next we are going to take out the switch and cut the spring off about 1/2 the way down it.
p1019738.jpg

Now you are left with a shorter spring on the switch.
p1019739.jpg

I like to bend it as best I can so that it is flat and round on the top and makes good contact with the battery.
p1019741.jpg

All that is left is to put the switch back in the tailcap.
p1019742.jpg

Take the spacer base that you modded and screw it in tight.
p1019743.jpg

And that is it. Now your host will fit 18450's perfectly.

Thanks DTR for this great info :)

I'm thinking about buying one of these from you for a 405nm or a 635nm build.
I will contact you later about this :)

Good deal both those builds if you go with a boost driver for the 405 and an x-drive for the 635 you can stick with just an 18650 and you should not need to do this mod.:)
