I've been looking and I can't find a pulse drive circuit. Don't pulse drive circuits make the diode like more than 2x powerful?

The peak is much more powerful, i hear, but the average power per unit time is the same, I believe.

i dont think the industry would bother pulsing a diode to get higher power output if it didnt do anything

Well, average output might be the same (or even less!) but pulsed will give you nicer results for burning, while putting less strain on the diode.

There is a thread about this topic, and as soon as I find my LM I'll solder my version up and try it.

im trying to search for more info on pulsing but it doesnt want to work for me :S i have 5 diodes on the way and i plan on killing at least 4 of them with various experiments :p i want to try to pulse one and tec cool it and see just how high i can make it go (red)
im wondering about the pulse circuit though..im not sure how specific that sort of circuit would need to be but im planning on just using a simple 555 timer and making a modified metronome. ive made one that hit some ultrasonic frequencies so that might be kind of interesting to try. please hurry. id like to see how things turn out for you!
