hi all!
i have pulled a little 5mw red module out of a little laser show i had, and it has an adjustable focus thing, and to my surprise, there was a little diode can sitting down the bottom, and is the same size as the GB diode!!! the only prob is, there is no visible way to get it out? there must be somethig that unscrews, but i can't seem to find how to get the diode out?
i'll post some pics in a sec.
thanks

I'll watch for the pix but there's two basic ways the diode is mounted in the module. A threaded bushing as in greenies or simply pressed into the heatsink (typical for reds). For the reds, I remove the lens and spring, then press the old LD out from the front.
Just did it twice tonight for my "mistakes" which I never make !!

i have to wait to get some pics, we are having our carpet cleaned, so i can't grap my webcam(it is the best thing for close up shots! it's better than my other camera which cost me $1000 at the time!) the weird thing is, at the back, there is no obvious marks that the diode was pushed in? i'll try knocking it out.

Well hopefully it is pressed in and not glued in. If it is pressed in it will be easy to replace it with a GB diode.

it should, if not, i'll just tape it in or something, there is still the little thing that was holding the diode in there, so it won't just fall through.

this is the diode that was in there, it looks about the same as the GB diode, right?

Looks good to me...the diameter of the diode at the base is 5.6mm...looks like the old diode is the same.
