I got my new modules - they look good. I'm not going to power up until I talk with Coherent to be sure how to clean the fiber output connectors.

I still can't seem to post much REP........

I called Coherent today. The Tech guy said that I MUST wash the output fiber connector with lab grade Acetone and Methanol. DO NOT USE STORE BOUGHT PRODUCTS. ANY residue crud WILL toast the fibers. I have the chemicals coming plus lens tissue.
There is so much power coming out of that ~0.06" fiber cluster that any crud will burn.
HMike

I am also redesigning my expander to eliminate plastics which can emit contaminates under heating.

Chris -- How did you measure your current for those pictures? Mine burned up at about 25 Amps.

I got my Lab Grade Acetone today and the Methanol should be here tomorrow.
I will talk to Coherent again to refine cleaning methods and lens considerations.

I measured the current using the meter built into my power supply, I have been running mine at 40 amps when testing inside and never had a failure, I've never cleaned my fibers either because they looked clean to the eye, which of course, isn't a measure of how clean they are.

Chris -- Thanks -- I feel better now but I will still be careful since I'm not
sure what happened to both of them. The lens in that little attachment with
the PCX was BURNED. The coating blistered and nothing could clean it off --
and that's at only 25 Amps !!! I will also try the fiber cable to see if that
fiber cleans up the spot appearance. I always got a spot showing 19 tiny
bright dots.......
Later -- HMike

ALSO -- I got an email from Edmunds offering some advice too. I emailed
him but will also call..... I'm doing taxes right now :-(

I also burned a lot of stuff with my FAP when I lived in New Mexico using that same lens too, never a failure and up to 50 amps on my 50 watt unit.

It may have been the lens that failed first , soon followed by the fibre tips ?

I spoke with Edmonds today about lenses. He told me that I'd need a PCX lens in front of a beam expander for it all to work. This isn't what I expected......

I will send another 12.7mm PCX lens like the one which burned, if you aren't afraid to use it. It has never caused a problem for me.

Nothing needed, I just have to get it sent, my world has been full of immediate issues for the past 2 weeks but I already set them aside to take to work for mailing tomorrow.

I would also appreciate a fiber cable coupler. Poke a hole in the box !!!!
The fiber cable may smooth the 19 point output into a spot.
Thanks as always -- HMike

Chris -- My business picked up BIG time. I've been turning down work........
I want to start with open output and measure heat buildup in my fan heatsink..
Ambient temp will likely have some effect.

I'd like to know how quickly and how hot it gets. Your package went out today.
