i'm sorry if i am missing something here but that leg on diodes is there for regulation, is there a easy way to use it.

The PD portion generally puts out so many mV / mW. It is typically used for feedback to the power controler circuit. You can try getting a reading off that lead when you power the diode. I've never seen a curve on that for our diodes. Might be interesting.

most burners don't have photo diodes, the pin is just there for looks :p
