I, i'm new here at LaserPointerForum.
This is my first Blu-Ray experiment, what do u think about it ?
Sorry for the quality guys, my camera sux :(
Anyway, still waiting for the housing for the diode

looks great so far, i like the very smooth look of the casing with the switch!
it doesnt matter how it looks inside, and has to be working, not shiny, i say!

so, is it done yet? isnt violet just pure beautiful.. *sigh*

woah! did you find double rcr123a holders?! all I've ever found was singles...

Dont hook the capacitors on the circuit, they will kill the diode if connected while charge, you should always connect capacitors straight to the diode. You could use that circuit just make sure to short out the caps before you connect it, just hope the diode doesnt come unconected then reconnect real fast, they dont seem to like all that power.. belive me ive killed one or two that way.

I like that button, t doesnt reallly protrude form the case making it look as sleek.

Tied down wires, neat layout...we have someone here who knows what he is doing :)
As woolazer says...short that cap before adding the LD, I would assume you have had a 100 ohm across the output to check the circuit out.... ;)

Thanks for the reply everyone ;D. About the battery holder, I also have troble finding one (even singel ones), so I made my own out of raw material. It is hard to see, but there are a pair of pinns next to the capacitors that I can short out when adding the LD. Simmilar to what you would find in a computer ;) Cant wait to put it togehter!

Nice but you will need more than two CR123 batteries. The blu-ray operates at a bit less than 5 volts and when you take into account the dropout voltage of the regulator, I think you will find you will need at least 7 to 8 volts at the input. You could get by with a 9 volt battery since the diode will draw only ~38ma's of current, this is what you should shoot for when you adjust the pot.

The batteries that I use are labeld "ultrafire 880mAh 3.7v" and @ full charge 4.2v. Will this work?, I don't know :-?. If not, just ad another battery right ::).

New to the forum but obviously not new to building lasers! Looking good. I have yet to build my first blue ray and will be watching this thread to learn from. Please keep us updated. I was hoping to mount my blue ray into the Kenom barrel, but I'm not sure it will hold 3 cr123s. Looks like from what Gazoo mentioned, I will need 9 volts...at least with the DDL driver. I know that Blue Fusion has drivers that may be able to run it with a different supply and there are threads that cover this...I haven't done my homework yet!

I will keep the thread updated, no problem. The truth is that I dont know that much about lasers but I'm leaning new things all the time. LEDs are quite interesting too.

My batteries just failed om me -they will not recharge :-/. They are dead. Need perhaps to find a new set. I hope your blu-ray will be a success :cool:!

You can get around that problem by adding a 'bleeder' resistor across the cap. Once the input power is switched off, the cap gets discharged automatically. I use a 2200 ohm, that discharges things pretty quickly but only draws 2mA.

But you must remember, never connect/disconnect a LD while the circuit is powered - and that means no loose connections in the diode, cap, or resistor. It's really true - the LD's, even the more hardy power reds, just don't like sudden connects/disconnects... which sounds unreasonable since they're made for pulsed operation, doesn't it? But they like nicely formed pulses, not random spikes. But after wiping out a few by forgetting to power down first...

I may be interested in buying battery holders if you can make more. Everything looks great!

So there is no one that can find double cr123 holders? If you are used to a dremel it is not so hard to make your own from PVC parts and hot glue. Just make sure that the tubes inner diameter is sligtly smaller then the batteries outer diameter. I got the little springs inside a old remote.
