New flashlight for DIY

Target has a flashlight that I'm going to use to put a red diy laser into.  The mini dorcy is a fine host and works well.  However it's not skinny like a pointer so I've been looking for a new flashlight host.  The flashlight retails in montana for $9.99.  We don't have a sales tax here so prices will vary.

The flashlight takes 2 AAA's and has regulating circuitry to maintain the output throughout the life of the batteries.  Not a very impressive LED on it but it's not needed for the laser.

I, do NOT like you ! I have not tried the "boiling trick" that Steve told me about, but I have not ever been able to get those danged things apart ! I look forward to what you will make it look like when it is complete !

Nice but I wonder how much current the regulating circuitry can handle. Are you going to use it?

I'm going to test it out and find out what it's specs are. I'm sure it's not rated to take anything more than say 4v. I do plan on using it to test if it works good. I may also end up sending it to someone who is more capable than I at testing such things. Like say Hemlock mike or senkat. I can check it's basic output on the led that is supplied with it I know it's going to be somewhere in the vascinity of 3v. but it's the amperage I'm concerned about.

There is no heatsinking on the LED as seen in the pix. What's the wattage of this light ?? If it's a strong 1 watt, it has promice for fun and at a nice price.

actually it's rated at .1 watt I believe. It is between a normal led and a Luxeon in output. Certainly not very impressive but yet not that bad. I may end up throwing it in one of my keychain led units if it will light up with two button 1.5v cells.

I'd love to but at this point everything I've got for putting together this into a laser is packed up for my move. You can bet your butt I'll be posting pics and everything when I get it put together.
