Right now I am trying to contruct a burning laser flashlite like the one in this video (Ill post the video later once I get 10 posts)
However instead of harvesting a 16x diode from a Sony LG, instead I got a 20x from a Samsung DVD Writer Model SH-202. At first the diode did not burn, however I later found out that it needs a collimater lens from a laser housing (Am I right?). However I am not sure whether the aixiz laser housing demonstrated in the instruction video would work with this diode. If so, please let me know, if not please tell which type of housing I should get instead and link me to a place were I can buy it. If you want to know what the diode look likes and were I found it in the burner go to (Ill post the media later once I finally have ten posts) (Although I already know now that it needs the housing to work.) Also let me know whether or not this kipkay laser flashlite hack is really true.

I'll go ahead and try to post nicely before someone else berates you.  (You have to understand, people ask this A LOT, and it's a pretty much universally bad idea to do what he does in the video.  People around here get tired of answering the same questions over and over, so people get perturbed when the same questions get asked over and over, especially when there's an FAQ that you didn't read.  It's not you personally, no one hates you, but I'm sure you can understand the frustration.)

First, there is an FAQ at the top of every forum section, it's called something like "Basic FAQ: Read Before Posting".  That means you should read it before posting.  Your question is asked here all the time, and is answered very specifically in the FAQ, which is at the top of every section of the forum.  You should read it.

As far as your diode, it is round?  If it's round and 5.6mm like the one in the video, the diode will work in the Aixiz housing.  If it isn't round, it won't work in the Aixiz housing.  Another thing, if you've already hooked the diode straight to batteries, it may already be dead.  It won't burn without being focused or collimated, but if working properly is should be really bright, like a very bright red LED, and should make a big, bright oval on the wall.  If it doesn't do that, it's already dead.  Again, read before asking or doing.  Hooking batteries straight to a laser diode is a Bad Idea (tm).

you need a driver to regulate the currect and it will not fit inside the mini mag so time for a new host and i recommend you do a couple hours of reading the tutorial section of the forum and learning all you can

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NEVER MAKE A MINIMAG FLASHLIGHT MOD!!! I REPEAT NEVER MAKE A MINIMAG FLASHLIGHT MOD!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

1. The AixiZ housing will work with your diode.
2. DIODES REQUIRE A DRIVER, YOU CANNOT HOOK IT STARIGHT TO THE BATTERIES!!!!!!
3. DO NOT USE A MINIMAG DUE TO NO ROOM FOR A DRIVER!!!!
4. YOUR DIODE IS PROBABLY ALREADY DEAD.

For example, a red diode needs 300mA, if you hook it up to a minimag with no river, you are giving it more than 1000mA.
Can you give stuff a dog with more food than it can handle? What will happen if you stuff a 20lb dog with 400lbs of food? IT WILL DIE.
You need a circuit to regulate the current. And, there is a lot of better and more compact flahslights out there, that have room for a driver.

BTW, you will always need an AixiZ housing for round diodes taken from DVD burners.
Check out the link in my signature for full instructions.

Kipkay sucks.

Im sorry for posting that question, next time ill read the tutorials. Also the diode is not round it's rectangular.

Rectangular!?!? :-?

Well then, it won't fit in an AixiZ module, therefore it is of little use...

But it'll die happy ;)

I saw that vid and it does show the guy burning stuff with a mini mag, it could be they include a small resistor or something to limit the current or he had hacked his to include a driver but couldn't be bothered to show that in the vid.

I've got a minimag and the tube is about the same width as an AixiZ so if you could find a 3v power source about the size of one and a half AAA batteries it might be possible. Although i won't say anymore as i fear Spyderz20x6 head might burst...
