Mounting Fans on Labbies.

Hey guys, i needed to find a way to mount a NMB-MAT 40mm fan on my labby M140, and i found a really nice looking way to do it so i want to show you guys.

Here is the bare labby heatsink with the module:


Then, i was looking around for screws when i found these:


So i cut them to size with my dremel (about 3/4 of a centimeter) and epoxied them in place:


Then, I put the fan on top while it dried to get a good fit:


I know the fan does not go all the way down but that is ok. (because the posts are at an angle) but this gives the fan a snug fit. I can even lift the entire device by the fan. You can, of course, glue it for a permanent stay, but i like it. It even "clicks" when i put the fan on.

I am very happy with this find as both sides of the screw mounts fit PERFECTLY.

Well, this is great so now i can use this crazy powerful fan for a (hopefully) continuous duty cycle

Also, it shouldn't matter that the fan isn't touching the surface, as it looks like you have holes in the top and side. That means it will still pull some air in through (air will go in the side holes, then out the top holes). If you have some way of measuring temperature, maybe you can do some tests with the fan suspended (how it is now) vs. with the fan touching the surface.

Where did you get that heatsink? I might have a need for that in the future

BTW, you can remove the long metal part of the rivet by inserting the rivet into a hole (much like the way it is intended to be used) then hammer the sharp part in. It just pops right off the other side
