i got a 10mw greenie for christmas and now i want to try the mod of shorting out the 03 and turning the screw, but does anyone here have any idea of how much it can shorten the lifespan? and also, is it safe for the lens to try to tap out the laser module from the apeture, because i cant get it open otherwise?

First of all, that video which i presume was the one on youtube was fake, just look at the part where he takes it off of the screen, he switches lasers.... If you do turn the potentiometer (the screw thing) it would more than likely get bright but you would be lucky for it to live an hour. Dont short out the o3, most lasers wouldnt even have a resistor that value, if it does it more than likely is a different value that what he has so it would kill it instantly. And no do not tap on the lense, it will knock it out of place since it is usualy glued in there, not to mention all the scratches it will put on it.

I pot modded my core and it has lasted about a week so far. If i adjust the focus it will pop balloons very easy and make electrical tape and rubber smoke.

Would heating up a resistor really make it pass more current through it? :-/

it sure can!!! , up to 10% more current depending the type used... I would be very careful and make sure the resistor used is rated to handle the amount of drive current.

i tried that at it didnt work, i checked the value of a 1ohm resistor at 1.2ohm then i shorted out 4aa's with it and it started smoking and turning black and burned part of my carpet then i measured it again at 1.22ohm...

Hey noobert, I have modded several lasers, and done well, and with my luck, they seem to be long time workable! I have been using my Core modded to 20 mW for months, and have had great results from several Galileo lasers from LaserGlow too! The Galileo has an easy to reach pot. To unscrew the nosepiece, dissolve the glue with a couple of drops of nail polish remover, grab tip with a towel and unscrew counterclockwise. Turn the pot counterclockwise as well. You can get 2 to 5 times the output, but, Do not expect to get a <5 mW to be a burner after a mod. However, the youtube vid will lead you to wreck your laser!
