I made my first code-name "Spacely Space Sprocket Heatsink" and it is working great.  Senkat diode running at 320 mA used to get hot in about 30 seconds is now barely warm after a minute or even longer.  Took a heatsink I found on an old server CPU board, ground it down and drilled a hole to fit around the Aixiz module, and used Thermal Epoxy to glue it in place.

Can't you just use any random piece of metal for a heatsink?

different metals have different properties and they aren't all efficient at conducting heat. Aluminium and copper are 2 of the metals that are good for heatsinks while still being relatively inexpensive. There are metals that are better than these but are also much more expensive.
