im using LG 20x DVD burner diode, please help!

Im using LG 20x DVD burner diode, and driving it with DDL LD driver, im using 2 pcs alkaline/ rechargeable CR2 (3v) battery, guys can you give a suggestion about what mA do i need to reach something like 200mw to 300mw if possible, and then have a proper LD life, Please give some idea so wont worry about my DVD laser project outcome...i hope you appreciate what im asking for, thanks.

I am confused about the batteries you are using. What do you mean they are alkaline/rechargeable?

If you drive the diode with 400ms's, your output will be well in excess of 200mw's. Probably around 250 if using an acrylic lens, and 300 if using a glass lens.

6 nimh batteries or 2 RCR123 li-ion rechargeable batteries.

actualy 2 pcs of RCR123 li-ion rechargeable batteries cant fit with my casing its only 2pcs CR2 can be fit inside, if you want here's the image of my casing that i will use, if rechargeable type of CR2 i will use is it ok? please give me an idea, thanks.

Looks like a nice host.

I've used these rechargeable lithium CR2's from DX, with this charger.
Works fine for me.

but get a couple 2-paks of the batteries, they're cheap enough... one of mine didn't work - but still a bargain.

Gazoo, do you know that that diode can take 400mA??

I can't say one way or the other because I am not familiar with CR2 li-ion's. Since the capacity of the ones I looked at is only 250 to 350ma's, you would not get a very long run time. Also I do not know what the maximum current draw is that these batteries can handle. If you do decide to get them make sure you get protected cells.

There is a person at CPF that sells them and they are the only ones I could recommend. You would need to contact him to find out the maximum load they can handle.

But they are three volt batteries right? How long do they run your laser before the regulator drops out?

And yes, the open cans run on 400ma's. I ran one with 600ma's and it was putting out 350mw's...it was nice while it lasted which was less than a half hour.

It's better if you use 7.2v instead of 6, because with six the driver will start dropping out pretty soon.

I think you are going to have problems with the CR2 batteries. Don't get the ones from DX, someone posted they charge up to 3.3 volts. Contact AW at CPF and ask him how long his CR2 will run with a 400ma load on it and maintain 6 volts.

hey gazoo like chido says that the LD driver needs 7.2 volts and thats 2pcs of CR2 @3.6v,to avoid voltage dropping of the LD driver, do think thats correct? please suggest a battery that has 6volts and can fit at my battery slot with length of 55mm for the battery space and 25mm dia.

Well you have to watch the mA of the batteries too. Try to get some that are at least 500 mA, so you can power your laser for some time before recharging.
