im using LG 20x DVD burner diode, please help!

i think that trimpot was .75 Watt because when trying to test it the result was good as Gazoo says my driver put out the max of 446mA, so i recommend myself to take a control of the trimpot to limit it to 360ma to 400ma only. the trimpot was so cheap and easy to turn.

The wattage should be written it the package it came with or in the website if you bought it online.

These comments are for when the diode is used in parallel as a reverse current protection. In normal operation, the voltage drop across the doide will be the same voltage the LD sees. (i.e. the voltage will vary as per the V-I curve of the LD). However, the current through it will be essentially zero.

In clear speak, that means you can ignore its effects on the circuit during normal operation. When the battery is put in reverse polarity, that's when this diode earns its keep.

Wait, so does this mean DDL was wrong, see I read in one of his posts that when the batteries are connected in the right polarity there is a .7v drop across the circuit.

chido i dont bought the trimpot online, i bought it in some electronic hardware market near our place, all of the components soldered there are all in the same hardware market, they are all cheap, but working well, same component i use to my blueray last past weeks.

Yes, but you need to know how many watts the pot can handle, a blu ray uses way less current than an open can diode, so even a 1/4 pot would work with that.
Test your circuit, set it to 400mA and leave it on for a couple of minutes, see if the pot gets hot, if it doesn't then I guess it should be fine.

Right. Take 1.25 X the current to get the wattage. Running at 400ma's you need a .5 watt pot.

guys here is my picture, my LG DVD 20x burner lightscribe was arrive this afternoon, so after an hour i will begin to build the project ive been waiting for. ;D

hey guys, can i ask you something when i open my LG 20x DVD burner drive i saw an open can, i dont know if that is the red one? :-/ do IR LD have open can structure too? :-/

I don't think I can answer that since I haven't harvested any diodes yet, just bought them. lazy ass
I would just harvest both of them, but it would help if you posted any pics of the dvd burner's insides. Also you said you saw just one diode, find the other one and compare both to this pic:
