of a All-In-One laser with a Green, Red, and Blu-Ray diode and a white LED.

I’d want the center button to activate all at once (the control buttons would control individual diodes), and have all click on/off. Also, that generation iPod have little LEDs under the control buttons that I would want to replace with the color LED of the respective laser diode. And have the hold switch control if any of the lasers could be activated. It would run off the old iPods battery and would be charged through the dock connector.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do it as long as you aren't also planning on keeping the Ipod as a working unit. I'd be interested in the circuit design on that, I don't think it would be too hard but it would require alot of planning and testing. I think you should give it a go. don't damage the ipod until you get it all built out first.

yea, I wouldn't want the ipod to actually play music. i hate ipods i love my zune. so you'd get pretty much the entire area inside minus the small circuit board for controls, and the battery.

I'd like to do this myself, but I haven't the slightest idea how to make lasers. Is there any sort of "beginners tutorial" I could read to understand what components I would need and such?

I have made 2 lasers so far, 1 red and 1 BluRay. I can tell you when I started I had no knowledge of how to start and these were very helpful to me. And now I know enough to build them, tweak then and enjoy them better. You might also want to go through this post

I'm trying to fit my bluray into an ipod mini, and its TOUGH.

The hardest part is going to be the green, you can buy a green diode it would have to be a module which would be about 1inch in length, that might be hard to get in there.

I don't think the length would be a problem i think it's the width for the green. At least from what i've heard. How visible are the blu-ray laser's beams? I really need a good cheap laser quick that has a visible beam at night for pointing at stars. I want to get something for that, then work on this when I have more time. I would prefer to make a blu-ray now if the bean is good enough for pointing at stars, if not i'll have to buy a green.

blue rays arent as visible as green but they are more visible than red, get a true 30 from dx they have a bright beam and are only 24 dollors if i remember corectly, they will even pop a baloon.

Green, red, and bluray inside of it, yes I do think it is very possible but the power supply will probably have to be external.

I'm looking up battery specs right now. This is the comparison between iPod generations. If the 3rd gen isn't big enough I could use the 1st. that's what I was planning on doing in the first place but for some reason I thought the 3rd was biggest.

It doesn't really say power output or anything, but could anyone tell from those if either would be powerful enough to power at least one diode at a time?

so that should easily fit...I think, this is all new to me. I would probably have to buy one of their already assembled lasers or something however, because I want more than 5mW.

Yah it would be a lot easier to put it in a 1rst gen ipod, those are quite... big, just take out the hard driver and all sorts of other random stuff, maybe you could even get a betterbattery for it? like you could stack 3 or 4 of those thin lithium battteries that phones have inside of it and still prob have room for the diodes.

well I would get a battery for the 1st gen ipods, but a new one with new technology. My biggest problem is getting the iPod controls to work. If it all fits that is. And I don't know the first thing about making my own laser.
