I am getting a Moghasm linear driver for my laser, and it doesnt NEED heatsinking, but i want to keep it cool. I don't want to have to spend extra money on actual heatsinks, mainly in part because i don't REALLY need them. I just want something that keeps my chips coolER, for free.

So here is the point: I took some aluminum foil tape, cut 1cmx1cm pcs, and stacked them, and with every other piece, i put a 1/4cmx1/4cm piece right in the middle for better heat dissapation.

I will be cutting it to size when i get my driver, and i will be sticking it to the drver using non-conductive adhesive, the one ON the foil tape.

BOTTOM LINE: Will this succesfully take SOME heat off my driver?\
Hope so!

Your computer is not configured to host images. You need to upload the picture to a site that can.

Foil is not an ideal heat sink, and foil tape is even poorer. Better than nothing? Maybe.

You'd be better of gluing a coin to your driver, preferably with thermal adhesive. Sure, not "free" but nearly. Better than foil by any means.

There's not much point in going through so much effort to try to make a heatsink yourself out of aluminium tape that won't be very good either.

Just order one online. They're really cheap nowadays with free shipping. As an example, Ebay has them (pack of 5 for $1.45 shipped), and DX does as well (do a quick search).

You might have to wait a while for them to arrive since they're from China, but hey, it doesn't NEED the heatsink. You could run it without first, and then add it on later. Also worth stocking up for future builds.
