The picture shows the "bundle of straws" effect on the output coupling mirror.
BTW--  Didn't someone else try this about 8 months ago?  As I recall he was trying to aim the individual beams and found cooling the center LD to be a problem.

Yeah I remember that, I think the title of the thread is called "Hex Burner Idea" or something like that.

Hadn't come across this before but its interesting to note solutions basically identical to what I was planning. In nature there are only so many ways to solve a problem. Hence the 7 diode emitters in a honey comb for greatest beam density and symmetry.

The collecting optics will need to be aspheric most likely for greatest performance. Regular spherical lenses produce addition spherical aberations for well off axis beams, something I could do without. Just need pointing control of each LD...
