All dvd burners should have diodes... Sometimes, they are just in an unusual and un usable form.

Your better off buying a diode from a site like Modwerx or hightechdealz :)

And, Welcome to LPF! :D

Hey! Welcome to the forum!

Do you know about AixiZ modules, drivers, lenses, hosts & heatsinks, etc? How much have you read about DIY? And are you able to solder? Basically wondering whether you're a "let's build something exciting" person or an "I want a to burn stuff with a laser!" person.

The only regulation I could possibly find is the general rule that what you sell shouldn't be unknowningly or unneccesarily dangerous. The only implications of this are that gadgets can't use high power lasers and pointer are limited in power (something like 5mW). This is only for proffesional shops as far as I know.
Calling it a handheld laser is already enough, or anything else to indicate it's not a toy but has a danger. So it's fine to have a kilowatt laser in your basement.
I have no idea how the idea of laser being illegal got to you, but really, lasers fall under the general rule to protect people from unknown dangerous things.

Here in holland every laser above 5mw is illigal, doesnt matter if its a whole laserpointer
or just a diode. @jainobeZ i can solder, im a lets ignite fireworks with a laser person and im getting a cheap 5w green laser pointer over here, going to use the host, heatsink, case and lens from that one.. but can some list a few dvd burners with diodes in there that i can use?! thats the only way to get a nice laser pointer up here in holland without getting in trouble with the police (And also with my parents :p)

No they are NOT illegal!

Let me put it this way:
Lasers boven 5mW zijn NIET illegaal.
I have all kinds of lasers, even Q-switched solid state. Never had a problem. AS I've said before, only selling them in the Netherlands without proper indication of the danger is illegal according to a general CE rule. Calling them a pointer or gadget means they shouldn't be dangerous. Besides that all bets are off. Handheld lasers, lab lasers, parts, no rule to be found.

If you are so sure about it, quote the relevant wetboek parts.

Also, you're better off using a blowtorch. This has been discussed time and time again and (unfortunately) a laser is nothing like a lightsaber. Lighting fireworks with lasers is so impractical that any coolness factor which would otherwise be present is vastly outweighed by the impracticality and danger.
