He meant the BATTERIES are not protected cells. Take my previous recommendation and use 6 nimh or alkaline batteries...problem solved. Nimh will be much better.

i have 4 nimh AAA's, and cannot fit more in there.

I know he means the BATTERIES

I mean what harm will not-protected Lion batteries do that LiPo does not?

If you don't watch the discharge voltage, you might ruin them. They are not supposed to be discharged below 3 volts per cell. Protected batteries cut off. Also you need to be very careful when charging them...they require more care too. They are easily damaged if dropped. Unless you have done a lot of reading on the care and use of them..then I do not suggest you use them for safety reasons. If you were to use 2 AA protected Li-ion cells it would be different.

I know you have a 4 cell battery holder. But it would be cheaper and safer to get a 6 cell battery holder and two more nimh batteries. But do what you want...

Yup...it looks ok.. :) Plus it has individual charging channels, each has its own charge indicator. But I would still recommend you get a pair of protected AA Li-ion batteries. You will have fewer worries with them and they have a much higher capacity too.. ;)

ok, but thats still 6v right? I thought our aim was more than 6v (I gather by AA you mean 14500's right?)

reducing to 2 batteries from 4 will be aesome, as long as it works

thanks,

The 5 digit number is deciphered like : 18650 = 18mm ( diameter ) X 65mm ( length ) where the last ' 0 ' stands for cylindrical cell

surfing ebay found 10 panasonic CR123A 3V Lithiums for 3 bucks, did buy it now right away.

Now, what to do with these batteries... how wide are they? wider than AA? if I cant fit 4 in a holder made for 2 AA batteries, Ill prolly use them for DDL's MXDL mod.

are there CR123 holders? would be preety nice

If I have any extras ill sell them for like 30 cents a peice + shipping... my total came out to 13 bucks... ouchness... (damn shipping). but hey, im helping LPF ppl, and getting rid of things I dont need.

He did not get those that I know of. He did find a good deal on ten of them but they didn't look at all like those, and the ones he found are genuine panasonic cells.

I don't have the time to search right now but this was posted on Candle Power Forums and reported to panasonic whom confirmed they are fakes. A genuine panasonic looks like this:

Well I hate to tell you this but you need three of them if you are planning on using them with the 317. They are not rechargeable and are 3 volts but tend to sag. I forgot the size of the battery holder but it was recently posted her. I don't remember where.. :p
