is it possible to get reachargable Cr123s cheaply or am I better off buying new ones each time?

Corim123 - IF you get into the rechargeable CR123's you will need to modify the circuit, I imagine - I have not tested it with RCR's yet, so am unsure what the extra voltage those babies supply would do to the internals...

The most common rechargeable 123's are Lithium Ion, and are about 1.3-1.6V higher than a disposable 3.0V (so 4.3V or more) at full charge. Some LED driver circuits can handle a range of inputs, some can't. Some detect the higher voltage and will pass it through to the LED and over-drive it.

So it sounds like a bigger hassle than a convenience when they are $1-$3 on ebay in bulk.

A primary CR123 will last a long time, there is no need to get rechargeables. BUT make sure you get known brand names because off brand lithiums have been known to go kaboom! And we don't want anyone to get hurt.

amandotech.com has $1 123 batteries, and Batterystation has them for $1.50, and I believe one or both offers a CPF discount.

Agreed...battery station has good prices, but I would spend a little more and get a brand name. Even the Sure Fires are known to be OK from what I know.

I have used the battery station, and battery junction CR123's for a while now - they are nice, and priced VERY well ! They work just perfect - agreed that there are some "off" brands that should probably not be used, but do not dicount the ones I mentioned - they are really great batts !
