The driver is made right on the MXDL board. I am selling a couple of pre-made 'HOT' MXDL lasers...

That's nice, where did you get the flashlight?

Dorcy Metalgear, from Target. Heatsink less than $3 no mod needed just add 2 shim one for the LD housing and the other for the flashlight head. LD is held by a set screw that came with the collar and collar hand press into the flashlight with a set screw for extra security. I'm building another with Daedal driver so I crank up the open can to 420mA. ;D ;D

is there anyway to make jayrobs heatsinks so that the diode housing doesnt stick out so far without losing thee ability to focus the laser?

I could easily make the heatsink just a hair larger I.D. at the face, so that the module's focus ring could be 'slid' into the heatsink. Or, if you are using the AixiZ, and you do not use the metal finger grip, but only the 'slotted' black plastic threaded acrylic lens. You could adjust the module so that lens is flush, or even inside a little.

I wouldn't think that you would want to do that though?? Then it would be more difficult to focus the laser. One other benefit of having the focus ring sticking out a little, is that a DX rubber 'tail switch cap' fits nice for a dust cap. Works great for both the AixiZ, as well as the Meredith...

Jay, great idea on the dust cap!

Thanks! It was Senkat that posted that idea a while back. There is a little 'nub' inside the tail cap that you just cut off. They fit really nice over either module! Of course, there are different color ones that you can get. Maybe another color would be a better choice for some, because you could see it 'lit up', if the laser was accidentally turned on...

You could always gather a bunch of pre-1982 pennies, melt them down into an ingot, take it to a scrap metal dealer, and take the money earned to buy a nice heatsink ;D

Actually, I've read that you can now do that with brand new pennies AND nickels now, fresh from the mint and worth more than face value. Of course, it's still against the law, but what the hey.

I've heard of one of the professors at my school buying Canadian coins made of gold, turns out they were something like 6n5 pure (that's 99.9999995%, 6 nines followed by a 5) gold and more than pure enough for his research at a fraction of the cost of buying purified lab grade gold from a chemical dealer. At least that's what I've heard.

Speaking of these "dust caps" they are perfect. Thanks Jay for tipping me off.... :)

Your welcome! Hey Gazoo. I am curious about your latest MXDL build. If you got it done, what resistor did you end up going with? And if you used your extra HOT diode, what was your power reading?

Hi Jay,
Nope...still not done, but I did start on it. I do know one of my new MXDL's has the 3 ohm resister, but I had already decided I am going to use a 3 ohm resistor since the diode is a HOT one. So yes, I will be using the hot diode with the 3 ohm resistor. I am hesitant to use the 2.4 ohm resistor which would supply 520ma's to the diode...since it is a sweet diode I want it to last for awhile. As long as I can get greater than 300mw's I will be very happy. :D
