Just wanted to post some pictures of my new labby.

It will house a LOC at 430mA, i have the heat sink i posted before mounted in their.

The build is made of a free enclosure of pactec, 3 switches, 3 LED's, 9v battery, DDl driver (not shown I'm not done yet just posting my progress ;)), and a small computer fan.

The far right switch is the safety, has to be turned on, middle is for the fan, far left is for the laser. All have a led's wired to them, Took me awhile to make very good quality and one of a kind. Ask questions if you have em' or comment  ;D ;D.

9v batteries are fairly low capacity. Rechargeables would definitely be a better choice.

Use a 3aa batterie holder with 3 rechargble aa's.

3.6V total enough for a flexdrive and lpc.

Good idea, ;) but a DDL driver needs at least 7.2 V for the LOC to run. Two 14500's would work, 3 would be even better, but i am limited to space inside the enclosure. :-/

Ill add a picture of the driver, and when jake sends me my LOC diode. I am going to make a hybrid tutorial on how to make it sometime. :)

I also agree that the 9V probably needs to go. These batteries are marginal for a bluray, never mind the current demand of an LOC red. Your fan must also draw at least 100mA? Can you fit maybe 2 x CR123 lihium rechargeables? LOC red will need up to 3.3V and the linear driver needs about 3V overhead to regulate, therefore you need more than 6.3V to be certain of optimum regulation and operation. The suggestion for AC power is a good one, too. You could put in a jack and connect to a 7.5V or 9V 1A wallwart. You have an excellent looking build going here! Congrats, and let us see the finished product and beamshots.

Bill.

being portable has its advantages. but in a labby, its' not so much important as a pen.

Nice build by the way. Very well done and looks very professional

or... you could make it both... a plug in for wall power... and batteries for portable?

Thanks for the comments, I will defiantly keep you guys posted on the progress. So i could just grab a wall unit transformer, like off a old speaker set or something as long as it meets or exceeds 7v and 1amp. Yeah, portability is nice, like bugattidude said, both. What do you think is better, 9v or two cr123's?
I'll get my diode in soon, so beam shots and updates will happen ;)

This is PIMP! ;D However I'd swap the 9v for AT LEAST some 14500s or better :p

9V Square bats actually come in lithium  and they have a capacity of around 2000mAh

But that's a NICE build, very unique

I took your advice people, I modded a 12V 1A PSU and installed it into my build, I must say...It BURNZZZ.

I have two videos up, I will get beamshots and more pictures of the unit when it gets darker out.
