What's some if the coolest experements that you guys have done with a burning laser? I'm just curious

So far I've done lots of experiments, not much with burning lasers. Unless you count a pump laser. My biggest would be replacing a KD*P crystal in a large pulsed YAG laser and aligning it.

never had any interest in burning things..probably never will.
Done some cool things with lasers, just not any burning.
My stories would probably boring anyways.

I did an experiment to see how long it would take to digest and excrete a opto RPL... Didn't work out too well
seriously... I haven't done much, but i always seek to find something that fluoresces under my 405nm laser light..

burning stuff with 1W or 808nm IR is pretty cool.
but taking a burnt out LOC red diode then pumping over a amp of current through it without a heat sink and making the solder points melt? priceless

Optical trap was the one I was most amazed by, although playing with my homemade spirograph to create 3D patterns and looking for things to fluorescence under 405nm laser light is always funny

Here are pics and such of several experiments. The "burning" set was when my 1st green RPL was new, and I wanted to try different color paper, an onion, a cigarette, etc. as described.
Like Wayne said, I'm not into burning stuff. My favorite experiments involve the visual more than the thermal. Having a laser powerful enough to burn a hole through a plate of steel would probably change my mind.

optical trapping is my favorite as well... its really weird.
I like filling up a room with fog, then setting lasers in one place, and taping small mirrors the walls where the dots hit, just to fill the room with beams.

LOL different kind of optical trap you are talking about there. The optical trap that uses infrared laserlight too "trap" and manipulate microscopic particles and cells will cost you $10,000 MINIMUM (maybe even more minimum) to build, and you should have years of experience under your belt before even attempting to assemble an optical trapping system. I went to a lecture about these systems once and my mind was boggled :O

Burning one of my mates ass with my bluray laser while he was searching for something under his tv-rack. Half of his ass was sowing btw... i was laughing my ass off.
At first he was just scratching but after some seconds he realiszed the pain
