Aixiz Lense Help??

Hi everyone. I just completed my first 650nm laser. I am running the LD at 250mA and am slightly dissapointed with the output. I read a long time ago on LPF that there was a mod that can be done to the Aixiz lense, but for the life of me I can't find where that post is. Apparently by making the hole larger, it can increase the output by about 25mW.
Does anyone know how to do this and if it is true?
Thanks. :)

But don't think it will get you 25mW more.

What diode is it? Where did you get it from? Is your driver adjustable and accessible?

you could also just get a glass lens for the aiixiz ;)

like dave asked what diode are you using?

The diode is a SLD1239UL-54
I bought it from http://shop.stonetek.org/
As for the driver, I made the Dorcy Jr mod.  I installed a 5.1 ohm resistor in it that brought the current down to 250mA.

The only reason why I am a little dissapointed with it is because my 15mW green laser looks much brighter that my new 650nm laser.  Although, after doing several burn tests, I can confirm that I can burn just about everything that isn't white or red.

Here are some pictures that I took with my phone.  Sory about the quality.

i cant say much about the diode you used, others will tell you more i think!

about red vs green: i have a 20mw green and a 200mw red, both thermally measured. they are about comparable in brightness, the green even looks a bit brighter.
and with the non-linear response of the eye, it could be easily +-50mw red, when "measuring" by comparing to a (guessed output?) green. which would translate into "your red may be between 150 and 250mw", if you want. doesnt sound that bad any more, i hope? ;-)

its even much worse with blu-ray. even less visible than any other color, stated in charts anyway. like 1% visibility of green!

to confuse everyone even more: if you assume that green is 10x more visible than red:
-200mw red looks like 20mw green
-200mw green does NOT look like 2000mw red

which means: 2000mw doesnt look 10x as bright as 200mw..

ah, and finally, everyone (may) see lasers different to begin with, like how a given wavelength looks like (635nm vs 650nm!), what power is beginning to "hurt" when seeing the dot on a wall, how visible violet and near-ir are, and so on..

isnt all that laserstuff great? :)

Where can I find glass lenses for red lasers and blueray, which fits well in Aixiz?

An even better upgrade for a red build using an AixiZ module (much better than Aixiz glass), is to get your hands on one of these AR coated acrylic lenses!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350117036998

You may have to message the seller, but those lenses will give you 10% more power with a red! :) And the back is already opened up for you...
Jay

P.S. Visually, your 15mW green will be much brighter than your red build. Even though it is probably around 170mW's. The eye sees 532nm green the best. 15mW's of green can even point out stars at night.

yes.....and you could also buy an LPC-815 sled from the buy-sel trade thread and get it harvested and put into a module for cheaper than that 16x diode you used, and you will get ALOT more power from them too.
LOC is better.....it's cheaper than what your buying and it's alot more powerful (250mw-ish)
