My only laser is a cheap gree 5mw laser of ebay. I was going to buy another one and modify it, I saw a vid on youtube on how to do it.
Will it wreck my laser and any tips.

Yes, you are likely to wreck your laser! I have heard of people following the youtube vid and wasting thier lasers several times. There are some lasers with easier to reach pots and if you are careful, you can often turn the pot on these to get more output power. One of the easy to mod lasers is the LaserGlow Galileo, also many similar looking lasers from DX are good, (look for the pot showing in the un-assembeled views), but I prefer the LaserGlow as it has a good IR filter. if you want a Galileo, check my listing in Buy, Sell & Trade.

Caleb, yes it is possible to do it successfully but it's also quite possible to blow it.

The problems are both mechanical and electrical. Mechanically you've got to get to the pot (if there is one!) without drilling through the wrong things. Then if you get to the pot, if it does anything at all you can't be sure when to stop turning it up - and the temptation will be to go as far as you can... but if you go too far it's too late.

...but lots of people do it and succeed. My record is 2 trashed, 1 success.
Since doing that, I discovered that it's less expensive over time to just go to DealExtreme and buy a True 30mW that doesn't need tweaking - for less (I'll bet) than you paid for item+shipping on eBay (DX doesn't charge shipping).
