Wicked Laser beam divergence - false advertising!

I got a 95mW executive green. They're supposed to have a beam divergence of 1mm/meter. Well, this thing widens so fast that I can SEE the beam widen when I shine it into the sky. I reflected the beam off of a mirror and measured the diameter of the beam after having traveled for about 15-20 meters, and it had widened to about 5 1/2cm! That's about 2.5mm/meter! And it wasn't a bad mirror - my new homemade blu-ray has a divergence on the same mirror at the same distance of about 0.25mm/meter! It hardly gets bigger at all even after 15-20 meters!

Did I get a bad unit, or are they all like that?

Zomg Wicked does it again!

WL has a really bad reputation here. Many of their units are underspec and perform overall poor, but the divergence of yourse seems to be really bad. You must have got a bad unit.

I would recommend you to send it back to them and get a refund, so that you can buy something better, for example from Novalasers. If you send it back requesting a replacement, it's like a gamble. You never know if the replacement is better or even worse.

My message to everyone is to avoid that company at all costs, I''ve had similar problems with them.

Re: Wicked Laser beam divergence - false advertisi

I just remeasured the beam divergence. I used my green laser glasses to get a better reading on the spot size. It wasn't quite as bad as I thought, but it is still about 3.5-3.75cm at 21 meters, or a divergence of about 1.7mm/meter, which is double what it should be (advertised as 0.8-1mm/meter. For comparison, my Alpec 5mW green laser pointer has a divergence of <0.5mm/meter! The spot size at 21 meters is 1 cm!

My friend's extreme 55mW also has horrible divergence. At 10m, the spot looks about 3cm wide!

I'm surprised they didn't give themselves five stars for everything.

Well, I'm sending it back tomorrow for a replacement. We'll see what I get.

BTW, a 95mw should be able to ignite a match with a pinpoint focused beam, right? I tried lighting a wood match and it wouldn't light. It does pop balloons pretty easily unfocused, though.

95mW focused to a point should easily light matches. I can do that with my True 30 from DX. ;D
