We lost another company!

Hi guys!

I must day i am just as surprised as you guys! In 2015 i visited kevin (owner) of laserbtb.com. Even back then he was trying to go foreward with laser safety products.

I emailed with kevin every few months. But last month i did not get a reply anymore. Whe i took a look at his website i saw that is was gone

I still have a closet full of new laserbtb lasers and goodies (purchased by myself). I might have to put up a sales thread for it.

Gladd you are still here too! Anyway i am still lurking here every now and then. Since i did not get a reply from laserbtb i figured to look here. And he presto all is clear now lol.

Also maybe you can explain this to me. What in gods name has happened to everybodies rep number. In my golden days 200 was a lot! Now i see people cassually having 2000 plus lol.

Hey Robin,
You ran the best group buys with Laserbtb when there used to to be many different group buys. I was lucky enough to participate in five of yours and got four free lasers as there were different gifts for different levels of money spent. I purchased four lasers from them in February 2017, right before they closed. Great to see you here. With all of the effort you put in to the GB's ,and the way reps are given out these days, you would have more than almost anyone on the entire forum!

They multiplied like rabbits, I guess they should have kept us separated. :crackup:

Honestly though, you're correct, back in the day 100~200 points put you at the top of the food chain here, now a new guy can get more than that with his welcome thread!

If you decide to sell any of your Laserbtb's, i'm sure they'll sell easily, as they are a good solid workhorse of a laser!

RIP Laserbtb , I have some of their lasers that I have bought here on the forums. Quality gear. Bummer to the max !!!!

Great, they will be sold very fast if you offer them. Their hosts are awesome. I have one from them (SKY Lasers actually) and it was my first serious laser. Very well built hosts with many safety features.

BTW - regarding duty cycles, they vary a lot based on evironment temperature AFAIK. If it is cold enough I can run my DPSS lasers till battery dies and they are not getting hot. Of course they cannot be cooled down to that low temperature otherwise and switched on as there might be some thermal shocks in internals, just the low environment temperature should keep them cooled during operation and laser is switched on when not completely cold yet.

However if we are in common operating temperatures it is good to keep recommended duty cycle to allow your laser to have long and satisfying life.

I'm interested in what you said about the duty cycles of their lasers. I bought one of the last PL532-200 lasers that they sold before shutting down the website. The laser does have a great peak @ about 320mW but after about 2 minutes of continuous use the power drops down to about 200mW. If I leave the laser on for a little bit longer the power will drop down to about 115ish mW. If I run the laser for say 5-7minutes continuous the power can drop down to as low as 100mW. Is this normal behavior for a laserBTB laser?

The laser host itself is great. The listed duty cycle on the laser is 5-10 minutes on/1 minute off. On the website it was 15 minutes on/10 seconds off.

I can't speak to LaserBTB's 532nm laser, but this is typical of poorly designed and temperature controlled 532nm DPSS lasers. As the pump diode's temperature increases it is transferred to the crystal set and you will see mode hopping and decreases in power output.

That's exactly what I have been suspecting for quite a while now. I haven't bought many 532 DPSS lasers, (4 in total) but only one has not had that very annoying power drop problem.

Most people don't really seem annoyed by it, but I find it a bit sad when a laser which is advertised as outputting 100mW will only be outputting 30mw after a few minutes of use. It's kind of like if you bought a car advertised as having 500hp, but after 20 minutes of driving the max hp the engine can output is 250. Say you go to the dealer and explain the issue and the guy says "yeah, this type of car has a 50% loss of power when the engine is warmed up. Most people don't seem to care so it's not something we advertise or warn about"

I think you're right about it being an issue with the crystal set. A while back I did test the current on one of these power-drop DPSS lasers and it only dropped by a few percent, not enough to cause that much loss in output.

I've built several of these over the years and as long as you pay attention to heat dissipation, they tend to hold power pretty steadily. It is in those cheap eBay pens that you find mode hopping and power losses.
