I just got an infinity 15mW as a late b-day present the other day, but it seems to be a little over spec... it came with the sticker saying <20 but it pops almost any color balloons instantly, lights matches and smokes my oak desk! The beam is very visible in a well lit room, and almost light a light saber at night. I'm not sure of it's actual output but it's at least 100mW. is it just a mislabeled unit, over powered or what? I heard that tech lasers isn't a good place to buy lasers so whats with this thing? What kind of life span should i expect out of it at this power?

Seems like you got a good laser (which is abnormal for Techlasers :D)

It seems that if you buy low end lasers from WL/TL you have the best chance of getting one that's overpowered or in spec

Well, you can just take big pics then resize them to be smaller, even with just Paint of something :)

If that thing can burn, then it's overspec. 15mW shouldn't burn. Overspec is pretty good for TechLasers :)

infinity on left next to x-150 on almost dead rechargeables in dark basement with my psp camera ( totally forgot about it) it doesn't take the best pictures and doesn't like beam shots but can take smaller pictures

Well. If the X-150 is nearly dead then that isn't helpful, because we have no idea what power that's outputting.

But if it's on full batteries, we know it's outputting over and around 150mW :) So do a recharge and see what the comparison is.

But if that beam shot there has that X-150 at even a quarter of full power, that's one insane infinity you have there

infinity <20 on left full power x-150 on right, could anyone give an estimate on the power? the camera makes them both seem way dimmer than they are irl because it's picking up the reflections on the lens inside the laser and dims the rest of the picture. both beams are brilliant, i would take photo's outside if i didn't live in a flight path. night pics possible tomorrow if i drive out of town

Damn. This 15mW laser is brighter than the 150mW NOVA !

lol wut?

Does the NOVA at least look like it's outputting at full output? ie; burning black stuff instantly, popping balloons instantly, etc.

yes, very much so but it's beam seems a bit fatter than the infinity the dots seem to be the same brightness, maybe i just can't tell. the x-150 can puncture my leather chair in a few seconds, the same goes the the "15mW".

infinity on left x150 on right both shining on black construction paper

That's incredible

A Techlaser 15mW has matched a NOVA 150mW. Never thought I'd say those words...

Where do you live? I'd LOVE to see this thing get meter tested. Maybe someone near to you has a meter...

I dunno. I'm in Australia, so I can't meter it for you.

I'm sure someone must live around there. There was a list of who has power meters and where they are on the forums somewhere, but I can't remember where it is...

I'd suggest making a new thread in the General section (http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?board=b_general) asking if anyone with a meter in Detroit would be willing to help.

A 15mW being brighter than a 150mW is just crazy, any hardcore enthusiast in the area would be willing to test those for free just to see what's going on :) Especially since 150mW is around the limit for pen style lasers. If that thing is emitting a lot more than that, then it's a rare find.

THIS IS COMPLETELY CRAZY.

It's one in a millon you will get a crazy overspec laser like that.
And it comes from TECHLASERS!!!
Maybe they sent you the wrong laser, I mean, it could have sold as an infiniti 125. It would have been very funny to see that beast metered. :)

Again, I'm completely shocked  ;D

im thinking it was mislabeled or something but it's defiantly putting out more than it should it says <20mW on the sticker but im doubting the sticker is correct.
