so I was looking around because WL is either a scam now or they are really stupid and have no idea how to deal with customers, so I have been looking for a laser everywhere and what I find is strange

like these lasers, I see what appears to be the same laser at 3 different places - 2 times!

$43USD - Old style red laser 200mW/adjustable [OLRLA200] - $43.00 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

$27USD - DealExtreme: $27.40 High-Power 200mW Red Laser Pen (Burns Match + Visible Beam Daytime)

$34 - High-Power 200mW Red Laser Pen (Burns Match + Visible Beam Daytime) [E0648] : BestOfferBuy.com, Buy DVD, Shop for PC accessories, Discount MP3 Players, Bargain Deal for Surveillance Equipment, Cheap R4 for NDS, X-sim Unlock

and these 3 from 3 different companies for really different prices

$37USD - High Quality 200mW 650nm High Power Red Laser Beam Pointer Black - Wholesale Price

$127USD - 250mW Red Laser Pointer Smart high-power 250mw red laser pen [] - $127.00 : BeamQ Laser Pointers, 50mw-200mw,Green,Red,High Power,Cheap

$42USD - DealExtreme: $42.76 HLP18130 Focusable 200mW Red Laser Pointer (2*CR2 Included)

whats up with these, I assume they are all the same but why the huge difference in the prices - also they have it in English but mostly things dont make sense to me - I asked a Chinese friend and he said its called "Changlish" and its not just like that in the typing, some of them actually talk that way and its strange like they were from another planet or something

DealExtreme and others with really cheap prices almost always sell lasers that are well under-spec. While they do look alike (and I would assume, they are made by the same companies) what you get isn't the same. A 200mW from o-like will be 200mW, while the laser you get from DX will likely be under 100mW (and if you're unlucky, it may be under 50mW).

For low cost units, look at o-like and rayfoss - with companies like DX, you get what you pay for.

This isn't the case for red lasers, only green. The lasers leftkidney listed are pretty much identical.

Almost every product in the world is sold at different prices from different stores. Lasers are no different.

yea I was talking about the red lasers, I would like a green one but I understand that I need a IR filter if its a higher mW and I here the cheep ones dont have these - so I will go with red for now

You don't really need an IR filter for green lasers.

thats what I was told by some friends who work with high powered lasers in labs

IR filtering is needed they said for anything 100mW and up if not as low as 50mW to be really safe

I also was told that the IR filter will reduce the output by about 3-12% depending on how good the optics are

so yea these are all red lasers so should the cheapest one have the same diode as the most expensive one that looks the same
