Well I just recieved my 150mw flx green laser from Faona today and it's not what I expected.

I asked Fayona if she could please send me a laser with real good divergence and to make sure the diode was nice and straight.... my 50mw flx was slightly off center but hardly noticable and not worried about it.

Fayona replied, I get what you mean and will pass on the info the the engineers :)

Cool Im thinking,

well the bloody host was not even remotely close to being drilled in the center for the Diode...

result, a pointer that is way off center!

I am very happy with the burning capability of this crooked monster, If I had to guess Id say its running around 170ish MW

The host chamber gets nice and warm shortly after the unit is powered on which I learned from here is a good thing....

Is there any way I can fix this laser myself? or should I just send it back for a replacement?

thanks

If you're concerned about it, then send it back. There's not much you can do without voiding the warranty.

Sidenote- you see that 'lens' in the picture you posted up? That isn't a lens- that's the output coupler. How that's aligned has an effect on the crystals themselves, and it may be mounted off-centre.

Anyway- got more pictures showing the hole in the host, or the wonky beam? A beam leaving the hole off-centre and a beam coming out at an angle are two very different issues.

Sure here you go, sorry for the bad quality... I have no tripod

Ok thanks for that, Im new to this and never knew that about the crystal.

Ok you see the center lens right?

around that there is a small circular copper housing, then below that is the big copper piece.... you see the diode isnt sitting in the center?

the left side has a big blob of glue and the right side the glue is way smaller?

The output coupler is off centre, and it's designed to be off-centre. Even on CNI lasers the output coupler will not be square on the piece of brass. That is normal. You can't actually see the diode either, what you're looking at is the output coupler.

That's how the green light is generated- it's not just a diode. Only difference is- you have an external output coupler which is set and adjusted at the factory.

You may have a crooked lens. Do you have a picture of the bit you unscrewed to reveal the output coupler, and the insides of that?

I(m not talking about the out put coupler, Im talking about the brass body that surounds the coupler.... its not set in the center of the larger brass piece.

Yes it does.

I've never seen an OC that off centre before, but the end result should be an offset beam, not an angled beam.

There should be a lens inside the housing that you screwed off. Check that lens.

I unscrewed the lens cap off my 50mw flx laser and placed it on the 150wm housing and its the same off angle beam.

Fayona just replied to my e-mail....

Im starting to think I can live with it just for the fact of the high stable mw's its pumping out...

what you all think I should do?

Never know...I see a lot of people saying Rayfoss lasers are outputing more than they say (200mw doing 220 for example) and few that say its below.

I got their 200mw waterproof red and mine was fine :p If it's adjustable and you can make a fine dot on the wall that your happy with, id say keep it...Im able to make a nice 2mm dot on a wall ranging 15-25ft away...I cant say exactly because I dont have proper red glasses.

nice to know, Thanks man.

I just got the wife to beam onto the kitchen wall from the living room and Id say the dot is 3mm at the most outter edge, I was wearing my new glasses and must say.... Im glad to have them, the 50mw is bright but this one is wildly bright!!!

I'm sending the unit back, it started to drop in intensity and fluctuate bright dim bright dim. What causes that? bad driver?

But any way Fayona is great to deal with :D
