Default Quick Review of Lazerer.com - "Meh"

I've been critical of Lazerer.com in the past, not because I think they're any worse than other generic laser re-sellers, but because they bill themselves as being better. But, I've been called out on the fact that I'm judging even though I've never actually ordered from them myself.

So - I decided to order from them, and chronicle the process. I won't got into any huge depth because there's nothing particularly exciting or scandalous here. Just the typical slow shipping you expect from China, and slightly underspec lasers.

I ordered two "100mW" 532nm lasers. Here's how the transaction went down:

(Mar 27) - Order Placed
(Mar 31) - No communication yet, so I emailed them
(Apr 3) - They reply, tell me the order will ship soon.
(Apr 6) - They say item is shipped and provide tracking number
(Apr 21) - Package hasn't arrived, so I decide to check tracking number, tracking number doesn't work, emailed Lazerer.
(Apr 22) - Reply from Lazerer with a fixed tracking number that work.
(Apr 23) - Lasers arrive, with some free flash paper as compensation for the delay.

The lasers meter at:
Laser 1 - 91mW
Laser 2 - 81mW

So, underspec by 9% and 19% respectively. Enough to be irritating, not enough to warrant sending them back. More importantly however, at $70 per laser, they're basically marking up on the promise of selling an "on spec" laser, and they're not delivering.

I didn't pay extra for the "power certificate" since I have 4 LPMs of my own. But perhaps the "power certificate" has an added benefit, in that they won't ship you an underspec laser if they have to tell you upfront that it's underspec. Who knows.

That's it for me. Nothing horrible or disastrous. Just another low quality generic laser reseller.

If you are not going to return the lasers, at least email Max and ask for a compensation (partial refund).

I do agree that Lazerer is dropping and it's not what it used to be.

I honestly think it has always been like that: subpar-okay quality/service with slightly underspec lasers. My review of the Lazerer TINY 150mW came with a power cert stating it's 143mW but meters max 133mW on my LPM. So 11% off. Shipping took 3 weeks to arrive at door.

I have to agree with rhd's review; it's exactly the kind of quality/service I received.

I ordered the MINI 650nm 200mw laser a while back. 1st burning laser, i was excited When it came, it did everything it was supposed to do, and my guess is that it was also around 200mw. But in 4 hours... It died. Being one of my first lasers, I did not know much about them... And also, I learned that the duty cycle thing in the description... Actually matters. So lesson learned.. Stick to the duty cycle.

Just thought i would share my experience

If you look at their power guarantee info, they state:

Quote:

We guarantee the actual power will not 20% lower than the LAZERER Rate power ( The power stated on product page).

For example if you are buying a 200mW laser. We guarantee it have at least 160mW. For those laser have power rang from 150-160mW, we will sell it with 150mW price, on 150mW page. So please don't worry. If you find your laser is under power. Feel free to contact and send back the item. We will test it again for you and offer an exchange.

*** If you are buying IR filter laser. We guarantee the power is 97% from the wavelegth of the laser. For those laser which IR not filterrd. IR power is counted into our calculation. ***
Which means both of your lasers were within the margin they guaranteed. (20%)

Pay extra attention to the very last line. That means that the green modules (which are not IR filtered) could in theory be 80mW IR and absolutely no green, and STILL be within the guaranteed spec.

So basically, yes, their modules aren't the best of quality and power, but no, they did not lie to you, they delivered exactly what they said they would.

That's a very weak "technical" defense, from a company that tries to bill itself as being different.

Under spec is under spec, even if they disclaim that they're "allowed to be under spec" by some particular margin.

It was one of their 532s - the only one that was $69 or $70 for 100mW. The waterproof host.

I'm on my phone so it's awkward. But there was only one model that fit those specs.

I'm just saying, you said in your OP that lazerer guarantees the laser to be on-spec. They don't. They clearly state that they just guarantee the laser to be 20% within spec. So they did in fact deliver what they promised. I agree that 81mW from a 100mW laser is bad, but at the same time, lazerer has never promised anything better, and it's certainly much better than the "100"mW lasers you get from cheaper stores such as DX, focalprice, etc.

I would disagree with that.

There are lots of cheaper stores that sell lasers "more on spec" than Lazerer. I'm reminded of my aHappyDeal cheap greenie adventure. "200mW" greens for $60 each. One was 25% underspec, the other was dead on-spec. A little different, maybe, but really basically the same thing.

You don't need to go with Lazerer to get "within 20% of spec" lasers. You can get the same quality elsewhere, probably for less.

That's my only point here. I wasn't upset by this Lazerer purchase. It was fine. No big deal. But that's because I approached it with the mindset that the experience would be just like purchasing from any other cheap chinese laser re-seller. And that's exactly what I got. No disappointment.

Thanks. This was the same laser I reviewed some time ago, and I had problems with.

But mine was overspec: http://laserpointerforums.com/f52/re...tml#post993556
