Hi guys,

New here and thought I'd start out slow and try get a good foundation so decided to order a host and a lowish powered (5-30mw) green module from odicforce along with a couple of batteries and a charger.

So despite the items showing as in stock (and the site saying posted in 1-2 days) the order took over a week to arrive. Not too fussed about that (slightly annoying as I wanted to play with new bits) but when the order has arrived the battery charger doesn't appear to work (LEDs don't light up, nothing shows with a voltmeter and tried different power cables) and even worse, the module I bought has come apart as I opened up the host to adjust the current (circuit board come away from the diode holder).

I've pinged odic a mail and will update if/when I get a response. Not the best of starts to a new hobby :(

About the charger, it would seem it is defective yes.

However, you are not to disasemble lasers and certainly not to pot mod them!
Never go pot mod modules. Green laser falling apart is yours, and yours only fault.

If you want more power, go buy a more powerful module.

If you think you could get more power by simply twisting a trimmer, then why aren't the companies already doing that in the first place, thus selling higher power stuff for lower price and making more profits and making the laser users happy?!

I'll give you a hint: It doesn't work, that's why.

Agree.
You are not the first to rip apart something during dismantling.

Toke, "Ripping something apart" basically means "disassembling something".

What you meant was probably, he's not the first one to screw something up while trying to pot mod a laser :p

Hmm well i wouldnt be too fussed about 1 week arival time, my order took 5 weeks, as quoted above dont try to pot mod, it most likely wont work and if it does it will fry your diode anyway after a while, im sorry to hear you have a defective profuct though, goodluck on getting a new one :)

Slightly aggressive response to a new member there - I was actually trying to reduce the power as it appeared to be set to max power when delivered. The item I bought was:

Adjustable 5-30mW Green Module for Host - Detailed item view - OdicForce Lasers Online Shop

So wasn't 'ripping apart' anything, merely removing an item I'd just placed in a host. The part that's come off is the holder that was previously glued to the rest of the pcb.

My post was by no means agressive. I guess it's pretty hard to make a strong point without sounding agressive on the internet. Gawd, I'd wish this was all one big conference call or something :p

Anyhow, the item sold to you was most likely tested to work. You had no business adjusting the current to a product. If it was advertised as 5-30mW, it's perfectly reasonable, as modules from same batch can have slight variations in power due to each crystal's internal and alignment imperfections, same goes for diodes.

Some sellers "bin" different modules from same batch and sell you 5mW module for one amount of money, and 30mW module for more money, although they costed exactly the same to make.

OdicForce makes a point here.

No worries on the post :). The module was advertised as 'adjustable' and clearly labelled where to adjust the current which lead me to believe that you could, well, adjust it. Anyway it wasn't the process of adjusting it that was an issue it was when I removed the head of the housing (which was rather snug) the diode holder came away.

All is good though, got a refund for the bits and have ordered another charger/laser module.

Is there a way I can change the title to reflect that I'm now a happy camper?

I believe there is an edit button somewhere at the top of ones own treads.

BTW: I have just made a similar order for a 120-150mW module, host, and glasses.
It is about time I get some better goggles.
