I will get Max to let me return it

How do you plan on doing it, given that you reversed the battery? Sounds like a voided warranty to me...

it doesn't seem like this laser is outputting 270mw, and I just don't want to deal with any of the problems

Have you measured the output? Did you measure it before you put the battery in backwards?

The power hasn't changed ever since I first used it. It was just the flickering problem and lower power than expected.

I left positive rep for the helpful comments thanks for the help but I am closing this thread. Have a good one.

You can't close threads since you're not a moderator.

Did you measure the output of the laser with a laser power meter, or are you just going to lie to Max to get him to accept a return?

Don't have one, but the laser goggles don't block the wavelength, laser should work out of the box instead of having a customer having to fix any problems himself.

It would be one thing if you had found a problem and returned it without further tampering, but you've said on record that you've inserted the battery the wrong way, have posted images of the laser disassembled, and said you don't have an LPM to test the power.

Are you just going to lie to Max so that he takes the laser back? This laser is well beyond the point where it has any sort of warranty or can be ethically returned...

You can see the problem with the clicky in your picture of the tailcap.
The black switch body is recessed into the ring that holds it ---that is they way they are for button top battery contact---the black portion and the contact should protrude out a little bit for contact with a flat top or the negative end of a battery.
Either it came with the wrong cap or when you put the battery in with positive to the tail cap you pushed the black portion in and it no longer makes contact with the flat bottom of a battery---also there are telltale scratches from a button top in the contact metal.

PS the beam of a 650nm 270mw is only as bright as the beam of a 15mw 532: http://rohanhill.com/tools/RelativeBrightness/?nm1=650&mw1=270&nm2=532&mw2=15&useRaleigh=on&ChromaCompat=

Yeah they don't look like they do anything to protect my eyes, here's a photo comparison

Yeah, cheap Chinese goggles for 650nm are typically crap. I've yet to come across a good pair.
I can't see even a spec of red when wearing my OEM laser systems goggles, as it should be. Invest if your eyes, you only get one set.

I will get Max to let me return it, if you are going to be insulting or call me dumb, then get off the thread, I appreciate the helpful comments but it doesn't seem like this laser is outputting 270mw

It doesn't matter if it doesn't seem like it, the only real way to know is with an LPM.

I didn't disassemble the inner workings as it isn't possible with this host, all I did was unscrew the focus head and unscrewed the tailcap.. Didn't tamper with it.

I got the exact same model from thejoker and his laser LPMS at 250mW. I rarely see a beam at all, yet I do feel heat coming from the beam, it has to be completely focused to do so. I also have a "100mW" green laser, which is over 5-10 times as bright as my red one.

For the good forum I am forced to also give you a neg rep.
Selling a laser to you, considering all, is not a good idea.
When it worked , but not up to your expectations and then thought that reversing the battery may be a good idea -you lost respect from us and even more so when you think sending it back after trying to fix yourself is an OK way to do things.

Although a minor sin you (maybe) do not understand why we frown on those who double and in your case triple post. the 'edit' button below all posts needs to be used when you feel the need to post again and the last post in the thread is yours.
There are exceptions to this when used to 'bump' a thread- or when the last post it quite old-but the thread is an important one -- adding to that last post will not move the thread up in the forum.

^^ well said +4
every time someone takes advantage of a warranty we all suffer when the sellers begin to no longer want to trust ANY members wanting to send a laser back.

Unscrewing Focus 'heads' are not at all the same as removing the tail caps.

Also I am a tad troubled about your power testing method of 'feeling warmth'
I assume you mean when you point the laser as ,say, your arm and you feel no warmth then that is a good way to measure output.

One other member here posted that he was not sure his laser was spec as he felt nothing when pointed on his hand and arm and not even much on his 'LIP'. WTH??!!

I have heard of the litmus test but never the Lip test.

To start over here I advise you to refrain from defending what cannot be defended.
What you CAN do is NOW use that edit button - go back and combine your posts.
if you will do that I will rep you again but this time a +3-

also NEVER assume that a laser (especially a DIY or inexpensive one) comes with reverse polarity protection- also never assume that a laser takes the battery neg end in first- on mine I put a lable on those who take the batt(s) the same way almost all flashlights do- positive end to the front.

before I started doing that I killed two nice lasers but not once did i give thought to sending it back for me making the mistake.

Also in some lasers your can place a + or - with a fine tip sharpie inside the tailcap- but when in doubt - find the answer in any way EXCEPT trying by reversing the battery(s)

good luck

hk

EDIT

WELL CRAP-!!
I forgot to click 'disapprove' so you got a +3 by mistake-

can you edit away your double and triple posts PLEASE so I regret my mistake Less?

No need to get carried away- you can delete all your own threads and posts- yourself-
you may need to click 'go advance' as far as banishing many have banished themsleves by just no longer posting. You also can ask admin to ban you- that has happened a few times before.
but FYI starting over with a new account and user name MUST be approved by admin should you want to go that route.

Why not stick around- try to be helpful and your neg reps will go away with the +reps
you will get- the rep system is really not all that important unles you go deep intio the red. If you will just add your location to your profile(just country is enough) I will
+3 you when the system allows. We like to know your country to give more accurate info. Plus there may be another forum members living close enough to meet up and talk 'laser'- if you lived near me I would have already offered you the use on my LPMs

I know you may think we are picking on you but what has been posted is pretty much SOP here. Whatever you decide to do i wish you good luck...hak
