My Bad experience with DealExtreme

I have bought a few things from DealExtreme, have had no problems before this and I haven't really heard anything that bad about DX. Ok so I bought two tritium key chains, they are radioactive, but safe and glow and have a half life of about 12 years and come in all sorts of colors. Mind you ALL of these items that I purchased CLAIMED to be IN STOCK. I ordered two at the end of may this year (first order). I received one about two weeks later and got a nice little piece of paper saying the other key chain was on back order. So I wait a bit and email the company, asking the status of my order still on back order. I wait another week and email again and its in stock. Great!! DX said they would ship it within a few days.

Ok so like 5 days later I decide to buy two more tritium key chains but in different colors (second order). I never received a shipping number or tracking number. So I give DX a email and they said its out of stock and we are working very hard to find you a supplier. Right..... Within 3 minutes I found the same tritium key chain on ebay for less money. So I canceled the second order.

Going back to the first order, Now at this point its been more than 2 months since I received my partial order. The emails were going back and forth this whole time just to let everyone know. I email about the first order, and they claimed it was delivered. OK I thought it was at the post office. Nope. Nothing there. Since the tracking number they told me for the item that was on back order was the same as the first shipment that did NOT have this item in it I, started to become suspicious. I requested the tracking number for the item that I didn't receive. DX had NO response to this and just asked if I would like store credit. Meaning they DIDN'T SHIP IT TO ME! In that same email DX said they were out of stock of the item. I don't know any kind of business that buys one item to sell at a time. Bulk is preferred I'm sure. So I tried to cancel this order also but since they were playing games with me and wasting so much of my time, the 45 day return policy expired. boooooo.

So I called paypal, the fraud department is going to do an investigation but thats about all that they were willing to do. So I called my bank and they are gonna help me try to get my money back. Someone said to file a complaint with The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). So I did. So now DX with have a phone call from paypal, my bank and the (IC3) about fraud. So in short even tho this was a bit lengthy, DealExtreme Lied about having items in stock, and Lied about shipping items to me. I hope this helps other people out if they want to do business with a company like this.

I have dealt with DX for almost 2 years and have made perhaps 50 different orders...
I must admit they are slow to ship items (but there is a reason... see below)...

Your problem started when you threw a monkey wrench into their system by
canceling your order...

DX does not warehouse any parts or items... They send out a request and payment
to their suppliers to ship the items to you...
When you cancel your order... they then need to cancel the order to their suppliers
and get a refund... way before you get one...

DX does not stock anything.... they are a middle man...

They have never stiffed me in all the orders I have made....
But.............. You better not be in a hurry to get your stuff......

I guess I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. The majority of the problems occurred before I canceled the items tho. Like lying about items being in stock and lying about shipping them to me.

Because they do not actually carry stock and are a middle man...
they go by what the suppliers tell them... That includes "Items in Stock"
as well as "Items Shipped" since it seems the supplier does the shipping..

I think Jerry is right on with the fact that DX doesn't even always ship their own stuff, I have a buddy who orders computer trinkets and stuff from them, and he has had split orders come from different addresses - chances are it's just a "drop-ship" deal for them...

Sorry to hear about your bad experience, I (like Jerry) have never been totally "piped" by DX, just frustrated by their speed.

My item was 4 dollars and half works, laser/lighter, laser works.

Ehh I'll see what they offer. The torch lighter for 10 dollars I bought was very high quality though

I brought several Cree torches from DX, as for shipping, it was quick! 1 and a half weeks to Australia, I could not believe it, as I heard their shipping sucks. Pehaps they have a dedicated supplier for Oz, IDK

As for the Cree's, 2 were good, the rest (5) had no contact springs lol. Made the laser builds frustrating.

I bought a cell phone jammer from them and it didnt work so I returned it. At the same time I sent another item to the same city. The other item arrived to the other location yet DX are still claiming they have not received the defective item. I am pretty sure they are full of crap and just taking advantage of the fact that I didn't cough up the dough for tracking (international tracking costs $$ because you have to upgrade your shipping method)

@X5masterchief- Get the hell out of here.

just a little update for everyone. well since I canceled my second order within the 45 day period, I was refunded that amount. Great!!! As for the first order, the order that I had so many problems with, DealExtreme is going to refund me for the item that never shipped. Great!!!! DX said to expect the refund in 1 to 15 days. so we will see. I just had to take a little bit of action to get this issue is resolved.

I've tried ordering those tritium keychains a few times before, and every single time I've ended up waiting for two months... Every time they said they were IN STOCK, and every single time there ended up being a 50+ long post on their message boards complaining that they really weren't in stock and that no one ever received them.

I've always gotten a refund, it only took a week or so to process, but I've learned never to try and buy those tritium things.. You'll never get them.

I didn't know DX was a middleman. I thought they had minimal stock (just in time). Good to know, thanks Jerry!
