Meh, get the True instead... And I suppose you can tell them to label it as a gift pen worth $25. The True runs off cheaper batteries as well, and has the IR filter (doesn't matter but eh) I don't think the one you posted has any advantage besides perhaps longer run time. I'm getting one, maybe I can tell you what I think of it.

The True DOES have an IR filter, they just put the warning on all of them just in case. It doesn't matter though, it's going to be spending most of its time up in the air, yes?

Oh yeah, and I'm getting the True.

If you only want it for star pointing an IR filter is pointless.

As much as I would love to tell you to go with DX, I have to say you will probably need a better laser. I have a DX30 pen that is very bright, it pops balloons and even lights matches when focused, it's IR filtered, but when it's cold it can barely pump out a spec of light. I'm sure it gets cold outside star pointing, so if you buy one from DX get the "flashlight style" one you have in your link, because there is a good probability that the pen sized DX30 will be worthless on cool nights.

well i live in Australia so im not going to worry about temperature. And, its not entirely for astronomy and i am going to play around with it. So i realy want that IR filter if it doing much.
Also, any idea on how far it could go, shine on clouds etc.

Most good green lasers will go as far as the eye can see. For a 30mw you will probably be able to see the dot on stuff miles away.

True, but out of two lasers that promise 30mW, wouldn't the one with a filter have more mW of green? Course this is Dx we're talking about, we're not exactly getting great specs to begin with. ;)

If anything an IR filter reduces the amount of green light you get. It is another piece of glass that the beam needs to pass through.

A well coated filter should cost you a few percent of light wost-case, so i'd say having one is mostly beneficial. They also cost money however (especialy low-loss ones), so many pointers come without one at all.

As for the 30 mW CR2 from DX: i have ordered it but it hasnt shipped yet. I'll post a review once it gets here.

the cr2 laser that i posted a link two, does anyone know what type of switch it has. I was hoping it could be left on, the true just has a push button type.

The 30mw cr2 laser has a constant on/off clicky switch. That's good for astronomy because you can easily turn it on for a long period of time and mount it to your telescope. You can't do that with a penlaser.
