Default Re: DragonLasers 589nm "50mW" - Very displeased so far (LPM: 7mw to 24mW)

Just a thought from a shipper's point of view...
On your original packaging was there an account number for the carrier that they used to send the product to you ?
Lots of companies have accounts with their most common carriers. (Just like the ones I have worked/work for.)
If you have that number then you can use the same carrier and send the shipment to them collect on their account.
They wouldn't know about it untill the billing arrived at the end of the month !

While you get your money back from VISA they get their crappy unit back at their own expense.

If you didn't save your paperwork from the shipment then let this be an important lesson to you and everyone else that reads this.

Hope this helps.

It came through some combination of china or hk post, that turned into canada post on my end. I don't think there was any sort of shipper's account indicated.

But even if there was, that wouldn't be the *right* way for me to go about things either. Again, I'm not trying to "pull one past DragonLasers" here. I'm just expecting them to get me what I paid (quite a bit of) money for, at the price agreed upon.

I can't help but wonder whether their approach is to knowingly sell under spec 589s, expecting that most buyers won't have an LPM?

Yes it's their approach and other companies do it as well. It pays for them because most customers don't have LPM's and will never know the actual output of their lasers. So they are taking the chance of a small percentage that will return their lasers.

Sure it's better for those companies to behave that way rather than to measure each laser and take out from the stock the defective or the underspec ones.

DragonLasers is no longer replying to my latest emails. Following DJNY's suggestion, I decided to post on their Facebook fan page myself also.

I'm really not crazy about doing that. It feels very unprofessional. I'm just not sure how else to get some cooperation here. They don't seem very reasonable - or responsive to legitimate concerns.

Here's their fan page if anyone is interested.

Default Re: DragonLasers 589nm "50mW" - Very displeased so far (LPM: 7mw to 24mW)

These accumulating stories make me wonder if something is up at the Chinese drop-shipping companies. This situation is not unique in recent times.

Like, I recently got a very nice 498mW unit back from o-like, after I returned to them (at my expense) a 130mW unit that was supposed to be 400mW.

But, I had to play the "I bought $250 insurance for the returned item, and the tracking trail leads to you" card, before they acknowledged receiving the return.

Wonder if some kind of squeeze is hitting the Chinese drop-shippers.

Sorry to here all the Trouble your still having Buddy. Man I dont get why they do business like this.

Also I know they have a LPM and Iam 99% sure they tested it before they shipped it out. SO they new they where sending you a Lower power unit but still sent it to try and pull a fast one on you.

I guess they thought or was Hoping that the person that bought it "You in this case" dint have a LPM and Just tried to pass one of there Lower spec'ed Units off to get ride of it. Witch is Bad Busniess.

Makes me Wonder what kind of other fast ones they have pulled and got away with it.

Now they are Not answering to you.

Best of Luck Buddy.

Well there's another company I can strike off my list to do business with. There is no excuse for a company not eating the shipping on a defective product.

I would follow up with VISA on a dispute. It sucks that you are going to be out shipping costs either way, but at least you won't be out the full amount for the laser.

I also "shared" your comment on my FB page, so it will get a little more visibility. Perhaps with a spotlight on DL's poor business practices they may come around and do the right thing, before they end up losing a bunch of future business from here.

Good Luck!

Default Re: DragonLasers 589nm "50mW" - Very displeased so far (LPM: 7mw to 24mW)

JULY 10 - To be fair to DragonLasers, I've sent them one final email before taking any action with a credit card chargeback. It has been 3 days since they returned my last email, and I'm willing to give them another 2.

Here is the email I have just sent them. I CC'd every email address from DL that I had (including Frank, Adam, sales and marketing)

Quote:
Hi,

It has now been 3 days since my last email, and I have not received a response. I will wait an additional 48 hours for a response, before taking further action. Here is a summary of the situation to date:

1) I paid $599 for a 50mW laser, but you sent me a laser that more closely matches the specifications of your $399 version instead.

2) If you do not cover the entire cost of rectifying this error, then you are behaving fraudulently.

3) If I do not hear back from you in 48 hours, with your offer to cover the full cost of insured and tracked shipping to return the laser, then I will proceed to initiate a Chargeback with VISA, and report this transaction to them as a fraudulent bait-and-switch. I am happy to provide VISA with my evidence substantiating the fraud, in order to assist them in reversing the charges.

I have honestly and truthfully chronicled my experiences with you here:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f41/dr...4mw-64890.html
From the responses in that thread, it sounds like you have already lost substantial business. Your reputation is continuing to become further tarnished the longer you refuse to behave ethically or honestly, by standing behind your product.

For the purpose of clarity, I reiterate that:
- If I do not hear back from you in 48 hours with details as to how you will rectify this error, including by covering the $42 shipping cost involved in returning this item to you, I will immediately proceed to reverse the entirety of this charge with my credit card issuer, and will forward them the evidence I have collected to date. Any offer or response that does not include full coverage by DragonLasers of the $42 return shipping cost will not be considered on my end, and will have the same effect as a non-response.

Best regards

Very sad to hear this I was eyeballin that same laser. I planed to buy one soon, but now I'm not even going to consider it. Hope you get what you paid for eventually man.
Iirc i think i saw him say he was getting a refund somewhere in buy/sell thread

Oh and if you want a nice "spartan" laser look into scopeguy20 his cni group buy, might cost you a few bucks more but you are certainly getting the power you bought....maybe even better

Default Re: DragonLasers 589nm "50mW" - Very displeased so far (LPM: 7mw to 24mW)

DL finally replied. They made some comments about how a professional laser user (which, FYI, I never personally held myself out to be) should be aware that DPSS power fades with use. This is a somewhat silly argument for them to make in defense of their under spec lasers, as even if true, I hadn't used the laser prior to LPMing it. That was literally the first thing I did after installing batteries.

At any rate, they offered a refund. I'm still stuck with the $45 return shipping cost. Though I'll probably actually opt for the $65 faster option, to get this over with faster.

I would never ever touch this company again.

For as much as we complain about DealExtreme, FocalPrice, DinoDirect, etc, those companies HANDS DOWN stand behind their lasers better than DragonLasers.

Wow. That is extremely disappointing. That definitively strikes them off the list of companies I plan to deal with.

Laserglow's higher prices and matching quality control look better all the time.

Agreed. I used to swear by dragon lasers. After this, fuck them.
