Who can you rely on for a quality laser these days?
Received my Spartan 532 series 300mw in a timely manner. Got it yesterday and haven't seen it close to tem00 at any point in time. The beam profile along with the mode hopping is bad at any temperature. The only reason I even bought this laser instead of a 520nm is because I wanted a nice beam profile and good divergence. This laser meets neither of those qualities. Ended up with a laser that has a crappy line output all the time anyway. Although I cannot prove it at this time I have a suspicion that the laser is fairly underspec on power. Now I have 3 options:
1. Keep the crappy laser
2. Spend another 30$ on shipping and return it and be out 60$ for absolutely nothing
3. Spend 90$ total on shipping and hope the next laser is decent

I will absolutely not be making any more purchases from Dragon lasers in the future.

You'd better get a refund if your laser is not good, or you can decline the payment. The divergence of 532 should be very tight, show me a pic of the beam.

Thanks,

Hard to say what the divergence is considering the bad beam profile, but its 2.5 or greater depending on how it feels. beam at the aperture is about 1.5mm x 3mm all the time and hits the side of the lens creating some splash as well.

I have this same laser and it's very good. Maybe you just got a bad one. I'd write Adam an email I'm sure he will make good. my 300mW peaks at over 600mW averages 450mW plus all day long. Something must not be right with yours.

Well that's awesome, I'm jealous. Mine literally struggles to light a match.

DL has pretty good quality control normally. I'd find it surprising they would send this out knowing it was that bad. Maybe it got banged around in shipping. Was it shipped during the holidays?
I'd send him a video of the laser in lack luster action and see what he will do for you. He's been pretty good as of late about under spec lasers even his dreaded 589's. Unfortunately you will have to pay return shipping but last time he covered the shipping on the new unit. Best of luck.

I also am a big fan of the beam quality of dpss 532nm, but have you seen podo's spiker?

Maybe get a refund and buy the spiker with 3X expander from sanwu.

Seriously, this thing looks good, credit where credit is due.

My lasers from Podo have been sitting in San Francisco for a week now. I'm assuming clearing customs. I can't wait to get them. I agree with Red here. I have only read good things about Sanwu's lasers.

I paid a little extra when ordering lens from podo and they got to me in 5 or 6 business days.
I love that someone is building units with expanders, I was just playing with one of mine and I'm just glad to see podo expanding his product range.

Expanding, hehe.

I like to build my own but if he starts combining beams I'm going go nuts.

This is my 07E with a 25mm zoom lens, I just had it out tonight and had to make some smoke and fire.

So good! Beam expanders is something I haven't yet played with. I have 3 but now that I live in a busy area outdoor beam time isn't possible.

Hey Kevin what about a partial refund? This is something I often do when I buy from overseas. It's not worth shipping back and it's not worth the full price paid so it serves both sides well to deal with a partial refund.

I guess they used cheap or crappy crystals, a good 532nm shouldnt behave like that i would send it back and ask for full refund and never deal with that company again, buy it instead a real laser from jet lasers or laserbtb.

Ohh i had a Back in the day $800 costing Hulk ultra,

Had tem01, 02 and what not...

They replyed, it's normal.

I believe it was Frank or something, if he still works there.

Found the reply back from 2011 ^^

Didn't make a purchase true them anymore sinds ... only when one pops up in the BST section... Anyway's :D

Here's the mail i got from him without even having seen pictures.

I spoke to our head technician about the problem you are having with your Hulk Ultra.

Basically he said TEM01 mode with two beams is normal for the Hulk Ultra at higher powers and replacing your laser again is not possible because the replacement may also have the same double beam. As long as the power of the laser is over 400mW, it is considered to be working well.

Normally if a customer has a working laser that they are not happy with, we can refund the laser within the first week. You have had your Hulk Ultra for over three months so that is not possible. If you are not happy with this outcome, we can give you an additional $100 coupon/discount on your next order.

Verysorry I can't give you a better result than this .......

Regards
Frank

That's strange. All my labbies bought from DL have come in over-spec and with much, much better stability then what I specified. Although this dosen't prove anything as any lab system order is sent directly to CNI for production.

Handhelds on the other hand I believe are kept within DL's location and not made at CNI in China. Tried giving Adam a ring and seeing what he can do :)

Plus space isn't so much of a premium for labbies, squeezing higher specs out of them is significantly easier. :)
