Agreed. I would gladly buy the cheapest version of the GLP or maybe even the PL-E hosts and gut them, love both those designs.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gray would sell you an empty host Gabe. Even CNI will sell you a blank host. They just wanted way too much and it comes with nothing. Like not even the little blue plastic button. They wanted 280$ per blank host which was way too much.
I'm not really into custom machined host these days. For whatever reason I prefer OEM type host for builds. I have a bunch of custom C6 host, the rainbow collection McCrouse made a few years back. I bought 5 off of LivingLoud when he retired from the hobby. Probably going to be selling 3 of them.

I'm considering buying the cheapest wl PL BTB laser to gut them like you mentioned. I love that host and want to build my 1 W 520 into one. Something about manufactured hosts I really like. Just feel more solid and less home built but I guess that's the same reason others prefer custom machined hosts. I used to feel that way until I got my PGL and this PL.

I agree, those Pl BTB hosts are nice. But why not just buy a 1W 520 PL right from them? Would you want to gut and refill so you can customize components like buttons and stuff?

Because I already have the diode and driver. Actually, k bought them a year ago when they were 600$, ouch. Now they're less than half that. So the PL from BTB is about what I payed already and I can't sell the diode for anywhere near what I payed.
I can get a 1W PL 445 for 129$ and have been talking to Gozert if that driver would be compatible with my 520 diode. So I can use the driver bought for it on another build, swap out the diodes and have myself a 1W PL 520. See,s like a good plan. Gozert thinks that often the drivers on the PL may have a pot so even if it's not exactly right I can probably set it to work. Then I will have an M-140 for another build.
So that's the game plan in theory at least.

It is very possible that it will arrive tomorrow as it should be transferred to my local post office early tomorrow morning. Keep your fingers and toes crossed that it's OK.
Thanks LC. We are going to be very worn out from it all.

Says it arrived at my local post office and it's supposed to be delivered today but should say "out for deliver" and it doesn't.
I don't know what is going to happen anyways as far as some kind of review as I received an email this morning from my insurance that my son rear ended someone yesterday and he hasn't told me yet. He has a serious drug problem and things are VERY rough right now. God is in control regardless and he is constantly in my prayers.

Yes it did arrive.

K well someone is going to have to give me a hand as I'm not familiar with modules at all and don't know where to power it.

Mini 200mW Yellow laser module/red&green laser combined [OL-YLM] - $89.99 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

Trying to read the connectors it looks like:
yellow= fan G not hooked up
Green = LDG and goes to the green modules
Red = LDB and goes to the blue module
Blue =LDB also with nothing hooked up
White = FanB and is hooked to fan
4 pin white connector = I'm not sure about and has no connector
Opposite end there's 4 connectors (2 pin) and they are white, green red, blue
It says Vin by the white connector and I see no labels for the others. I definately have a 2 pin connector from an old computer fan that plugs right into this and the red and black wires are lined up correctly according to the rest of the connectors.

Looking at the connectors that are hooked up all have the same side to black wire and red wire which would have me assume that the white connector would be wired black - left and red + right looking at it from the flat rather than tab side where the connector would go in.
The only thing I can find so far is both of the red wires for the diodes coming out of their connectors are common (short).

Well, doesn't matter now as I hooked it up and the fan and green work but no red:(
You can see in the one O-like pic of it that shows the power hooked into the white as I expected so I hooked it up and I'm getting no red output.
There's 3.267 DC out of the connector to the red.
I see that same voltage out of the connector to the green and the unused blue that has red gunk on it has 7V
The first white connector has 0 volts.

When I study this picture it sure seems like the red diode wires are going to the blue/last connector doesn't it?
The problem is I'm not sure if they are generic pictures though as this pic shows wires going to the front barrel and mine has the wires going into the back of it as you would expect.

Yup, my controller looks a bit different than that pic.
Not sure what else to do other than try plugging it into the 7V one and see what happens but I have a bad feeling about that. I did plug the green one into the red one and the green had very low output but went back to normal after plugging back into its green port which causes the voltage to drop to about 2V. Haven't tried plugging the red into the green port either.

Just sent them a message looking for an immediate response but not expecting it. Anyone else have any ideas as I did try the red in the green spot just because they had the same voltage but of course got nothing. There are pots that could be tinkered with but I'm not trying that unless someone else really knows what to tell me to do.

For 89.00 why not just get rid of their driver and just turn it into a portable. It looks like it could be done rather easily. Looks like plenty of room to mount drivers to the right side.

^ I don't know what you are getting at. The red hasn't even worked yet. No idea what diodes are in this either.

By the way, I did get the 685nm diode today also.

Looks to me like this is a driver for 3 (RGB) diodes. The top row red, green and blue connectors seem to be to each diode/module. The bottom row are probably used to TTL modulate each diode.

The yellow and the side white are likely for the fans.

It seems correctly connected to me.

First thing I'd try is unplugging the red module and powering it from an external current source just to see if it powers up. I'd try maybe 50-100mA.

Yup, that's what I was going to do next and yes there's no output from it so now I have to fight for either my $ back or they send a new one which I'm guessing that means either way I have to send the whole thing back which will take weeks etc etc...

Yes I'm very disappointed but can't say I'm surprised.

Sorry Pman I was just saying that if you could figure out what to drive the diode at without their apparently non working driver, I would find a way to make this portable with the addition of new drivers and batteries. This is stemming from me looking through many threads recently about RG:Y builds. I apologize for the derailment.

Sorry about that. Maybe they'll send a new one without you sending the old one back. Many chinese sellers do that.

I get it but there's no way I would accept this unit without it working as is. I don't see any issue with the driver. You didn't de-rail the thread;) Business is business and that's one area I do not "play".
Regardless, the red diode is not working so it makes no difference. Sorry if I'm being "short". My son still hasn't contacted me about the car accident and I know he is using his phone because I am the account administrator and can see all the calls coming and going from his phone. I'm very concerned he is trying to drown his sorrows with drugs and not deal with the problem. It hurts that he wouldn't turn to me instead.
I'm sorry this RGB didn't work out guys. I have to wait to hear back from O-Like at this point before anything can be done but reading their policy I have to pay the shipping back which is expensive from our end and there's no way I will do it without having it tracked. I expect it to cost me $26.50 at least for an international package. The question is whether I'm going to want my $ back or to take a chance and have them send me another one. I sure would like to have a working unit.

Oh almost forgot. I also didn't pay enough attention when I hooked up my aixiz diode plug to the 35mW 685nm and had the wires reversed and blew the diode:) Lucky me. I have 3 of those adapters that plug into a diodes pins and 2 out of 3 are wired different. Do get a lovely red blown glow though;). Had ordered a second one a few days ago and it just shipped so I'l have another one in a couple weeks. I did buy a 5mW 685nm that I also received today so hopefully I won't blow that one. Correction, not getting any output. Time to go to bed;)
