Where stuff for 850-880 nm laser?

Hi. I'm new to lasers and pretty much extremely basic understanding of electronics. I have soldered something but I can't design for shit. Luckily, at least one set of pictures I've seen here kinda pointed to the idea that a laser needn't be very complicated. I think I could use some help for that though.

The diode I need is 100-200mW and 850-880 nm. Nothing below or above will do.

Axiz (sp) was recommended but they only have 808 nm. Any other pointers? And for prices that are reasonable.

Thanks for the help.

This is the closest I could find: http://www.cnilaser.com/infrared_laser845.htm

they also have an 885nm system. They may also sell just the diode, but you might have to send them an email since I'm not sure if they list them on their site.

Also it might not hurt to check here: http://www.photonic-products.com/order_laser_diodes.html

They sell many different types of high-end diodes, but they aren't the cheapest place to buy from..

Your need for those specific wavelengths will make you search a challenge, but they do exist. Good luck!

May I ask why you need that exact wavelength?

Just as a side not, SHG directly from a diode is not advised due to quite many reasons, so if you are thinking of just frequency doubling directly from a diode, it will not work as good as you might think. (Of course if this is the reason you want a specific wavelenght)

Thank you for your time, everyone.

Hemlock Mike: How many mW's does that 833nM one offer? Because I'm thinking that if it has 150-200mW, then it might still be useful.

The use of this is health related. I have a disease that involves reduced cellular activity in the spinal column. While there are some medications that help, I ended up (by stumbling on to some information about LLLT) trying an 880 nm, 170 mW LED on it, and I was surprised that my condition improved a lot. I have brought this up with my doctor and he understands as long as there are no side effects, and to this day (after 4 years), there haven't been any.

While I have been happy with the LED, I recently read that laser light has distinct properties in tissue while people selling LEDs have tried to deny this.

The reason I'm looking for 850-880 nm LED (or maybe a bit above) is that 660 nm LED didn't do nearly as much good.

I would need a lens or something like that to widen the beam sufficiently, to get a surface area of around 16cm^2. I think it would be best if the beam would be straight, like this:
   _____
 /
|
 \______

That way less powerful laser would suffice than here:

/
   /
/
|
\
   \
\

With these parameters, how powerful should the laser be to arrive at about the same power levels
as my LED?

One problem I have is that I think I would need someone to order at least the laser module for me and then forward it. Because here it is illegal to import >5mW lasers (without expensive testing) and I'm sure companies can't be persuated (sp) to forge the specifications. Would someone here be willing to do this for me? Because there might be issues of having to send it a couple of times before getting through customs, I would gladly send you $50 for your troubles.

When I said reasonable prices, I'm wishing a budget of $300 for everything would be enough.

Roithner Lasertechnich have some laserdiodes in the wavelenght you are after:
roithner-laser.com/LP-laserdiodesIR.htm

They are not the cheapest tough, but it does not hurt too look at the prices...

Roithner has diodes closer to ideal. BUT the most important thing is still missing: the person who would order and send these for me. A person with a lot of posts.

I have 500mW 836-840nm cmount diodes. Not exactly what you have listed, but I can set you up with something for a lot less than your ideal budget.

If you are interested just send me a PM.

Best of luck.

Hi. Is it possible for you to put together the hardish parts and leave me with something simple to construct? Or would you sell just the diode?

Could I just buy a cheap green one off DX without an IR filter and remove the collimation lens? Another total newbie question..

I'm gonna try that first.
