Hello,

I am thinking of (well more or less i am decided), getting a blue laser, a pointer above a power level of 30mw.

I have been looking at prices and basically what you get.

Well I have come up with a sort of list of possible lasers for purchase: I would like to know if youve had good bad xp with the company an their products and if the products that I have found are of good quality and value for money, though the later is pretty much out the door anyways:

DragonLasers Spartan BP 30mw
http://www.dragonlasers.com/catalog/Spartan-BP-30mW-p-16207.html

CNI baton style in the 30-40mw depends on the quote that I get from them.

WL is a no-go

DX...no thanks, i mean i like my true 50 is actually surprisingly good, but I am not leaving that much money on a laser there...

Optotronics is pretty much out of the question, I do not want to spend 1.2k on a laser...i know that the ones mentioned are close...but still I dont think I could forgve myself, I am apprehensive as it is atm, but I would really love some 473nm action for astronomy...

If you know of any others that would be good, please feel free to add, as it will not be an immediate purchase, probably when the next paycheck rolls in hehe, damn I hate myself -.-

Thanks

hmm well I'm still a firm believer that if you want 473nm and are willing to splurge some cash that you should get something with more bang for your buck (aka a lab style unit)

but if you're not wanting to budge from a pointer the Spartan seems like a good buy, or if you'd like to try a laser from DX I can test it for you

Yeah labby's are the best bang for the buck, but I am mostly going to be using it for astronomy, so portable is a must, size doesn't really matter actually. baton pointer style it is all the same to me...

good news is that I have quite a long time to make my choice...:p

Shameless plug:
If you're interested, I can sell you an Oceanus (RPL-equivalent) laser at a good discount. You get a high quality, good beam-spec unit without having to deal with the BS of DragonLasers at a decent price too. If you're interested, send me a PM, e-mail at pseudonomen137@gmail.com, AIM at pseudonomen137, or call me at 1 972 5356177. Thanks!

Red is horrible for sky pointing. A 100mw red beam looks like 2mw of green. Actually I use my blue RPL for star pointing a lot. It's really cool pointing the blue beam into the sky and it's great for impressing people. People are already impressed by green lasers and blue lasers are like WOW  You can't use a blue labby for much unless you have a nice scanner.

To the op: Buy the laser from pseudo. It's probably the best deal you'll get and he tests the lasers before sending them out.

yeah I remember seeing your thread in the buy, sell, trade section pseudo, just the thing is that it will be at the very least a month (provided no unforeseen circumstances arise) before I set aside enough money for one these blue babies, and even then I might have to wait another month (I am a pretty patient person when it comes to spending so much on something that albiet is very cool and will be haunting my dreams ;D for the next month, has a limited added-value or usefulness outside pointing at the sky). But I will contact you through pm...maybe we will work something out.

Oh and you mentioned BS from DL, what sort of BS, crap quality, bad support, slow shipping???

Thanks

He does have a point... A nice bright blue will dilate your eyes pretty fast, or if not atleast give you a lot of trouble trying to view fiant objects...

The beam from a 30ish mw blue laser really isn't that bright unless there is fog. The beam from my blue rpl on a clear night is about as bright as a 10-15mw green. It's perfect for pointing things out without being overly distracting.

Well...Hang on then, because I'm seriously contemplating selling my RPL blue because I'm in some financial trouble at the moment, but I'm not ready to let go of my baby yet! Give it a week or two and I'll know for sure.

Andy_con thanks for the great link, another option has been added, which is always good!

Oh and ace82, as I said gonna be quite a bit before I plunge into the buy, so when you decide that it may be time to let it go...shoot me and offer, and we'll work something out!

Oh, and blue isn't that bright? I was always under the impression that blue was everybit as bright as green at the same output...hmmmm... [smiley=undecided.gif]

Thanks

50mW Blue handheld. Hmmm.

I didn't think they made them that powerful (made, not advertised ;) ). I'd say what likely you've got there is a freak unit that is outputting much higher than normal. Isn't uncommon for companies (that vid is made by that company) to show videos of their most powerful unit to lure people in.

I personally don't know much about lasever, I haven't heard anyone talk about them on these forums. I wonder why...

Yeah it is definitely their creap-of-da-crop laser demo, but with the amount of money...I would of course demand a read out of avg. and peak outputs, and pretty much anything over 50 is more than enough.

I hadn't heard of the company either, I believe andy-con pointed me in their direction...it is a couple of posts above.

anyways the buy date is still a long ways off, ill start asking for quote's in a couple of weeks, then i'll se whatsup, but I have to say that the 80mw peak was pretty crazy :D, I didnt know they went that high either...hehe
