Hi everyone,I was able to get an unanodised host from Gary when they first came out. After trying various grits of sandpaper, and different compounds on my large polishing wheel, I came across this cheap item from Harbor Fright. Basically a round ball made of that 3M scratchy pad material. Like on sponge backs. Chucked it up in the drill press and 15 min later looked like this.
Beam photo of course added.

320 grit is actually very coarse for aluminum. You got a good finish out of that. Is the ball slightly worn out?
Usually a rag wheel and polishing rouge is the final step in polishing.
BTW; lipstick can be used in a pinch for a creating a mirror like finish.

Driver set at 4.5.
The ball I got from Harbor Freight was listed as fine.
Forgot to mention, I then put it on the polishing wheel with lots of old different rouges left on it. I recharged it using green rouge.
To be honest, the abrasive ball did all the work
Thanks for the compliments :)

Did the ball try to "grab" the host at any time?

No, never tried to rip it from my hands and hurled it across the room. Have a small lapidary hobby, soI know exactly what you mean. Spent many hours looking on garage floor for a stone. Lol.

Should of mentioned, did put it on polishing wheel as last step. 99 prcent of polishing did occur as result of that $4.00 polishing ball.

never tried to rip it from my hands and hurled it across the room Isn't it lightning fast?!? One moment it is there, the next second it is gone. So darn fast. I know a guy who wanted to clean up a large hunting knife blade. Guess what he used, a darn wire wheel. He buried that knife blade to the hilt in his upper thigh. Wow, you should have heard him scream!!

Amazingly fast. Lost a piece of amber like that. Turned off lights. Used a black light looking for it. Found 3 extra, plus a piece of sapphire. :)
