Well, yeah, that would be fine. But the point of this thread is that you don't NEED a negative line regulator in order to regulate on the negative line :p

ahh i see i miseed that before! so that works too?
why use 2 when you can use 1 big one?

I would have used one big one in my build, except only the 1117 comes in an SOT223 package, which was small enough to fit in my pill, whereas the 1083, 1084, and 1085 don't come in packages that small. And, unfortunately, the 1117 can only handle 800mA.

sweet, i see in your sig you have a 700mW 780nm handheld, where'd you get that diode and is it 5.6mm?

Nabbed it from RHD from the sale he was having. And no, it's 9mm. And while I love it, it hardly gets any use because it's divergence and beam is terrible (or lack thereof).

Novelty? I am becoming a wavelength junky (as you can see, I only have one of each color :p ) and I think it's kinda neat to burn things with an incredibly dim dot.

After I get 589nm, which is my next big buy! If I have spare money though I am going to buy a cheap 20mW 635nm diode.
