Yea, it's UV since its >400nm, but at the same time, it could be considered near uv, since its very close to 400nm. and Yes it will fluoresce on white surfaces, etc. anything a 405 will fluoresce on, these diodes will I'm pretty sure?

This ">" is a greater than sign, also if you were answering Blord, the question is would it fluoresce on a non-fluorescent surface, IE is 375nm visible to the human eye. Different white surfaces vary a good bit with fluorescence.

Should be noted that this will also fluoresce objects just as 405nm will, and 337nm will :)

See "TEA laser" in google for more information :)

A Coherent cube just went for $450 on ebay last week. It was only 6mW, but it was a turn-key unit.

And I was watching it. But too much for me

Also, 365nm LED diodes are out there and AFAIK they are the farthest LED into UV made (that I've seen) they are always labeled as UV. It's what most of the UV flashlights use. If there are others, I'd like to know, also

I hate seeing these diodes in my watch list. I get more tempted every day :D

No, you need UVB or lower for sunburn. Compare 375nm with the peak wavelength of a fluorescent black light: ~370nm. How many times have you been sunburned by a black light?
