Only a few thousand dollars, and it's yours. They'll sell you an engineering sample for it, but be prepared.

Some people are willing to spend a few Gs on 50mW 473nm lasers aren't they. I don't think they are that overpriced if they can really produce half a watt.

A FREE sample? lol
A half watt is too sweet an idea, but not for my $$$$$.
Unless it can be had for $500 or less.

Awhile back I tried to get an engineering sample of a 5mW 405nm diode from Nichia, and they were asking over $2000 at the time. Engineering samples are not always free. In fact, when you're talking about new high-tech, high-dollar devices manufacturers feel more comfortable releasing engineering samples if they know that they are only going to people who are serious enough to pay the price. Plus, it's much more costly for the company to isolate one diode and send it to you. they'd much rather you buy 10,000. Then you might see the price come down a bit..

They'll sell to anyone, all you have to do is send them an email. It's the cost that's prohibitive. Only serious companies would be able to afford it.

The nice thing about that wavelength is even though it appears less bright than 473, half the power is needed for a decent white balance (1:1 ratio with green)

I remember way back in 1995 I wanted a green laser so bad because I went to play laser tag and there was the red team vs green, my first time seeing a green laser. At the time the 5-10mW modules went for over $2,000! :eek: Then a couple years later, saw the same units drop to about $800. We'll see what aplications call for this blue diode, but I'd be willing to be in a few years we might just be having 447nm DIY's... if the world as we know it still exists by then.

What , 2000-5000 dollars is prohibitive? People buy Hercules lasers, why wouldn't they buy this? :p Sure there's a little more work involved, but hey ::)

They don't guarantee or even speculate at the lifetime of the diode so $2k-$5k might be a little high for a gamble...way outta my league anyway. I haven't gotten a response to my inquiry yet, but I didn't limit my interest to just this one diode. I just mentioned a range of wavelengths that I am interested in.

Hopefully they'll respond.

Perhaps I should have said prohibitive to 99.9% of the population. What I want to know is if it comes with a loaded gun so i can blow my brains out when (not if) I blow it.... 'cause you know I'd be a little depressed..
